Completed my first century today, finished with 101 miles on the bike odometer in just a little over 6 hours on the bike. The good? I finished it! The bad? Did not get the route sheet until this past Friday, which mean't that I had no idea just how hilly the ride was going to be! I kinda thought that the first 50 would be where the hard riding would be, but they put the tough stuff of the back 50 miles. Some of the roads has patches of loose gravel, and the weather wasn't exactly what it was supposed to...as they called for 5mph winds but they forgot to add 10mph to that.

Some of the hills were butt kickers, 30 degree grade at least...with one that seemed like it was 2 blocks long...my legs were trashed after that one!

Way to go,they can be tough sometimes.Keep up the good work,thats a pretty good time for a century,better than I can do.

I'm planning on my first century in a month or so... and figure I'll be in the 7hr ball park...

Was it the BikePsychos Century? I was there, and I too completed my first century. I finished 102.8 miles on my odometer (I don't know where those two extra miles came from.) It was a great route, pretty straight for the most part, and some great descent hills. I thought the wind farm was pretty amazing to drive past too. And I agree with you, those two hills were murder! Especially the one 60 miles into the ride. I got to the top and I felt like I was not moving anymore! It seemed that at about 85 miles I got really tired though. I think it was my mind messing with me because I knew I was 15 miles from being done.

Riding a century is kind of like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer - it feels real good when you stop.

You missed one of the best hills, on the 20 mile loop (we did the double metric). But, congrats anyways! Hit 41.5mph on the way down . . .

+1, I actually stopped to take a picture of the wind farm, very cool indeed.

I should of stopped and taken a picture, but I was just staring at them and almost running off the road. Maybe next year I'll have the guts enough to do a double metric and check out that downhill on the 20 mi loop. I'm always up for going fast downhill!

Yep, I was there...and that was the one. The back 50 was a little rough on some of those roads once you got past the wind farm...ya think? I finished strong...or at least I think that I did!

The first 50 was a breeze compared to the back 50, but it has been a week since that ride and I feel like I could do it again.
