First century ride - hooked!

So, maybe not STRICTLY a century ride (as discussed in an earlier thread, it wasn't one ride since I stopped for lunch, water, bathroom etc. on the way) 104mi / 7:24 on my Trek 520 with about 50lbs of gear. I left this morning just to test the loading and setup and, well, that tailwind felt so good I just kept going. Sadly, that tailwind turned into a brutally punishing headwind on the trip home

What are you talking about? Stopping for lunch, water, bathroom etc. doesn't break the ride up into two or more rides. You don't ride for a while, stop for 3 minutes to get water and think you're starting a whole new ride when you get back on the bicycle again.

Riding 100 miles as "one ride" includes any relatively short breaks for food, water, toilet, stretching, taking photos, etc. ... on an organised event, it is still one ride if you stop at the rest stops or controls, and on an unorganised event it is still one ride if you stop at places of your own choosing.

Where it becomes two rides is when you are off the bicycle for a significant period of time, such as ... if you rode 50 miles, came home, put the bicycle away, showered and changed, ate dinner, watched TV, went to bed, got up the next morning, had breakfast, and then rode another 50 miles. In a situation like that you'd have a tough time convincing anyone that was one ride.

oh, very good, i had read just before posting a thread from a guy who broke his ride up, but after re-reading it was clear he split it over 3 days. my mistake :)
