Cascade 1200 Roll Call

The Cascade 1200 is only a month away. With it being in my "back yard" and all, I figured I had no excuse for not doing it. Who else is signed up? Have any of you done it before?

This will be my first 1200k. My palms are already getting sweaty.

If you haven't done t he Cascade, it's a great ride and the SIR guys and gals do an awesome job of supporting the riders. There is a lot of climbing but none of it is too bad. Be prepared for all sorts of different weather. It can get really hot on the eastern side of the Cascades. Rain is probably to be expected at some point along the route. When I did it we only had rain on Rainey Pass (of course).

I'm signed up, paid the fee, bought the jersey. Now all I have to do is get my left achilles straightened out. Strained it on the ORR 400k. Guess 200mi of 15-20mph headwinds will do that to ya...

Last coupla times the C1200 has been subject to severely hot weather on BOTH sides of the Cascades, IIRC. Like 100+ f on the WEST side! Hope it doesn't do that THIS year. The "spring" weather here hasn't been too conducive to warm-weather acclimation.

I want to do this some day, but it's not happening this year for me.

Good luck everyone!

I remember hearing a lot about "ice socks" last time around, sounds like they help with the heat.

I hope to do it one day - it looks like a great ride. I just didn't have the qualifying rides to do it this year. This is my first year doing SIR rides, so Bremerton 400k was my longest ride so far. We'll see how I do on the 600k next week.

Ice socks??

Take and old tube sock put ice in it, tie off the end and wrap it around your neck. Works pretty good if it's really hot. you have to be careful that the water from the melting ice doesn't drip onto your shorts though. That can cause a nasty problem. I can tell you that from personal experience.
