Anyone know if Selle An-Atomica Saddles are still being sold?
I wasn't sure where to post this. I decided to post since cyclists I've seen use this awesome (IMHO) saddle seem to be long distance cyclists. I know I do. I use them on all of my bikes except for my fixie and I want to get one, but they seem all back ordered or unavailable.
I know Tom Milton, creator and owner of the company died on Devil Mountain Double Century in April (I know, I was there on scene as a SAG driver). An incredibly sad day. Regardless, I was wondering if anyone knew of status of the company. The web site and searches on Google have proven fruitless. |
As far as I know, yes they are still being sold.
I just had my SA saddle re-covered (in June) -- I "purchased" the refurbishing service online, packed up the saddle, and sent it off to their factory. Got it back in about 10 days. I would imagine you could purchase a complete saddle from their website the same way. Plus, if you do a search, there are still plenty in stock at various online retailers. |
The website is currently up and running. It's the first link to come up in a Google search of "Selle Anatomica". I was able to put a saddle in the PayPal shopping cart. Did you try that and determine that they couldn't send one out to you?
|
No. I sent them an email. Hopefully, they are still around. It would be a shame if it folded. Great product IMHO. Tom really had something going on.. May he rest in peace.

Have Chong call his distributor. I read that the local ops in Fairfield is somewhat behind sked, but the manufacturer in WI is still cranking them out. Amen. -dg |

Thanks to all. I ordered one on-line at Outfitters but have yet to see the saddle.
|
My wife ordered one a couple of days ago. It sure appears that they're still functioning.
|
I just received mine last week. Went for a casual 20 mile ride. My ass never felt better. The companies still shipping out.
|
I just got my saddle after ordering it last week
No fuss tho the website is a pain to work with if you don't use paypal (freezes during the order process) |
Ordered July 26. August 6 and nothing yet.
|
Mine came the other day. Took about two and a half weeks.
|
Still waiting on July 26 order. No answer to email over a week ago. Called today. Left voice mail.

I am not at all happy with this company.
I am not without compassion, but if they are not ready to do business then they need to shut down and get their act together. If you are interested in one of their saddles, I would say buy only from a reseller that has the saddle you want in stock. Do not give your money directly to selle an-atomica. I placed my order June 15th (ie, paid them June 15th). I received a saddle about 10 days later, but it would not fit on my seat clamp because the rails were too close together. I emailed them about it and they said they knew there was a problem with a certain lot of saddles or something and that I should try pulling the rails apart. If that didn't work, then I could exchange it for a new one. They implied that a lot of people apparently bend the rails and make it fit. What a load of crap. They knowingly sent me a defective saddle. I did try spreading out the rails (by hand) and they would not budge. Even if I could bend the rails (crowbar? rib spreader? car jack?) and get it on my clamp, I would probably not be able to adjust it front to back and it would probably wreak havoc on my clamp. I find it hard to believe that anyone has done that and kept one of these saddles. Anyway, I of course immediately replied and asked them to send me a new saddle. I am still waiting two months later. I have contacted them a few times and am always told it is on it's way. This contact, by the way, is always by email. When I called their phone number a recording told me that the number does not accept incoming calls. My last communication to them was an email monday night telling them that I need to see a tracking number or a refund by thursday and that I call my credit card on friday to initiate a chargeback. They emailed back saying they thought that my order had been completed and that they would check with the factory. I'm not holding my breath. I'll post an update when I get my tracking number or when I get my money back. By the way, I'm not some overly demanding psycho who delights in complaining or tries to squeeze free items out of retailers by making threats. I have never tried or even threatened to do a chargeback before. I also have never been jerked around quite like this or waited two months to receive off-the-shelf merchandise. |
I just sent my B68 to the factory to get a "upgrade" (they add the LD slot and reinforce the leather). Turn around time was within the usual (I've done this before). No issues. I will admit that I was a little concerned as the upgrade isn't as common as just ordering a saddle. I'd say that things are functioning.

SMP and toupe go on the shelf. |
UPDATE:
I'm still going with not functioning. I've been busy, so I didn't get around to doing the chargeback (yet). I have not heard directly from monarch mclaren/selle an-atomica since the last communication mentioned in my post above. I did however get an email on the 19th from USPS saying that monarch mclaren was shipping something to me. This was a full week after the deadline I gave them, and nine days after they said "I thought your saddle went out. Will check with the factory and see what's up." All of this was over two months after I ordered the thing, and after they knowingly (or at least recklessly/negligently) sent me a defective saddle. So anyway, a saddle did arrive, but not the one I ordered. I want black/black. This one has copper rivets. Am I too picky? Maybe. I briefly considered keeping it, rather than wait another two months for a replacement, but I decided that for $200 I should get the product I ordered. I've already waited all summer, why settle now? My bike is silver and black. And not only is black/copper just plain fugly, it would also stand out. I don't need an extra reason for thieves to notice my bike or its $200 saddle. So I emailed them again and told them to send me the correct saddle. I do want to try one of these out, so I'll give them a few more days and see what happens. Maybe I'll go ahead and install the copper rivet monstrosity, assuming the rails are not defective. I haven't decided if they're getting it back or not, even if they do eventually send the right seat. I do have other bikes. And a sharpie. |

You'll eventually need that sharpie anyway. The black coating on the rivets wears off over time. This, and the lack of a locknut on the tension adjusting bolt are the issues I've had with this saddle. |
Loctite?

A locknut works better. For the life of me I don't understand why they don't manufacture it with one. It's the only real issue with this saddle. |
I have two, and I haven't needed a locknut on the tension bolt.

I needed a locknut on mine. And I disagree with that being the only problem: the rails are too thin, and us fat guys need to be careful to set the saddles somewhere in the middle so's we don't bend anything.
The SA was my favorite saddle until I tried the Velo Orange saddles. Between the high price, medium quality, and questionable availability, it was kind of a relief to be able to move on... |

You've been lucky. The few people I know with a SA have all had the same problem as I have.
If what I have is luck, why am I not better at poker or at least the Lottery? |
