Texas Time Trials, 2011
A few more weeks, and we'll be there...the Texas Time Trials in Glen Rose, Texas. I've been there as a volunteer the last three years, rode the 12-hour last year, lots of fun to be had and a good excuse to get out of the house!
The main event is a 500-mile 48-hour limit time trial on a 26-mile loop passing through Glen Rose. There are also 24-hour, 12-hour, 6-hour and 1-lap events, with categories for teams, recumbents and tandems as well. C'mon out and have some fun!

Are you riding this year Stephen or volunteering? I've heard nothing but good things about that event. I'd love to get over there some day to participate.

It'd be neat to do the 500-mile as a team, assuming I could find a team of similar speed (ie, not especially fast). If I don't, I'll do the 12 hour, is the current plan- I haven't registered yet. And if I do the 12-hour, I'll also be a volunteer for setup and the first half of the event.

I wouldn't worry too much about speed amongst team mates as much as like mindedness. As long as everyone has the same goal and knows the other riders abilities going in you can have a great time with a group of riders of varying speed levels.

Well, what I mean is a group that won't get mad if I'm not fast enough. The people I regularly ride with have a pretty good idea of how fast I ride (though I can squeeze out a bit more on a 26-mile loop on a good day.) I haven't heard any other discussion about it, so I don't know if anyone's thought that far ahead yet- they're all busy with PBP right now.

If you are riding with people who know you and your abilities they should be fine. You're never going to find a team with four equal riders. Someone is always going to be the slowest. In all the years I've been racing team events I can only remember a small handful of people complaining about a "slow" teammate. Those incidents were really more about their level of effort than their actual speed. As long as they are giving 100% nobody on the team has a right to complain.

Im goin. Probably do the twelve hour. I wouldnt mind being on team. Have had too much trouble pacing down for solo 24. Buggered it twice, once when I was leading by an hour. Passed out in ditch. That was at Tejas a couple years ago. I love that place. Is the funnest LD event Ive done. I'll be driving from Atlanta.

signed up and sent Dan my check for $285. I'm in for this year (probably in way over my head)
Gonna go crazy and do the 500
just searching these forums for advice on what to eat/drink for such a long ride. My longest at one go right now is 187miles (300k).

I haven't officially obligated myself yet, but LSR has a brevet series the week of PBP in August. Now, 2/3 of the riders that would normally do the longer rides won't be there, they'll be at PBP, so attendance may be very limited. But I'm tentatively planning on doing the 400k, and I expect a couple of other people will be doing the 600k. I assume it will be hot, and these will be pretty leisurely rides not resembling a race in any fashion, but you're welcome to come out and ride with us if you care to extent your "personal best" distance in the meantime.

I really enjoy the randonneuring concept and the one I went to with the West Texas Randonneurs (Mark Hardwick) was fantastic. Biggest problem in getting up there is I have to rent/borrow/steal a car because mine isn't reliable over long distances.
May be able to con some other poor fool into going up there with me though ..... Would really like to try out the 600 and 1k before doing the race later. Thanks for the info.
