Phil Keoghan's Ride Across America on Showtime

In 2009, the host of Amazing Race takes a month to ride LA to NY, raising $400K for MS along the way, (30 fully supported centuries day to day, his dad following in an Airstream). "The Ride" is on Showtime right now.

Nothing but love for the effort, another plus for the riding community... I noticed he started this AR season with the contestants on road bikes.

I watched that show a few nights ago - very uplifting. I know you're bound to have some bad weather along the way, but he seemed to have horrific weather. and nothing like coming to a road closure and having to backtrack 8 miles into a really, really bad headwind.

??? I don't think they backtracked, they cut across to the highway on foot.

Wind blowing so bad it lifts the bike to horizontal while holding the bar and saddle - that is serious wind. What impressed me was he made PR dates along the ride, meaning he was expected to show at a certain place by a certain time. That seems like crazy pressure; I know that would annoy the heck out of me - imagine riding 8 hrs in the rain and wind knowing you had a date with city officials / fans at the end of the day, or the next morning. I think the guy has major stick-to-it-ness, though we don't see what was edited out.

Impressive stuff, and much more uplifting than cars exploding. Thanks Showtime.
