The 2013 LEL (London-Edinburgh-London) Thread

London-Edinburgh-London

I'm been aware of this event for since last year but haven't paid much attention to it. I had no idea of the last one but I knew that it was a quadrennial event.

That changed Saturday - I went from reading a note on the rando list regarding the 2013 event to obtaining pretrip approval from SWMBO to securing my riding partner's commitment to inviting my daughter to sharing a week with me in London before the event to getting access to the ex-wife's frequent flyer miles (for the daughter's ticket) - all in less than 48 hours.

So, if I remain healthy and continue to build miles, I plan to ride the 2013 LEL event.

Is anyone else considering this event? I haven't been to the UK in quite a few years so I'm excited.

I'd love to do it, there's been a lot of talk 'round the tables in the local club.

I don't think I can gain the strength/experience in time though. My longest ride so far is the fleche I did last weekend.

But...we'll see how the season goes maybe. I certainly want to be able to do it...

Funny, I almost posted something about this last week. Yes, I am currently planning on riding this. Only 870 miles!

Can't wait, sounds like fun. And through some of the most beautiful country in the entire world. Very much looking forward to it.

One of our local K-Hounds is planning on it, I'm not.

In 2009 I rode (most) of it. At 1100 km I had to abandon because of knee problem.
It was a great ride, good organized. Even though the weather was very bad, rain and storm, I still enjoyed it.
Will do it again next year.

Yes, planning to do it on the Rodriguez fixie. And then spend a week at the opera in Glyndebourne/riding in the south of England.

Hmmm. I could probably talk my wife into designing a vacation around LEL.

That's the WIIFM strategy and the mark of a smart man.

"What's in it for me?"

We'll likely go over a week early to do the tourist thing, hang out and acclimate to the time change. It's gonna be a blast.
