Iditarod
First of all, it looks like they've got a new website: Iditarod Trail Invitational
Secondly, the race starts Sunday 1 March ... but the preparations are underway.
But just before the Iditarod, the Susitna 100 is held mid-February: Susitna100.com - 100 mile & 50k winter races on marked trails in remote frozen Alaska - Home
I've been fascinated by these two for years ... maybe, just maybe, one day I'll participate.

Just read this morning that there is some consideration going on to doing the sled dog Iditarod restart in Fairbanks this year do to the lack of snow here in South Central AK.

I've never ridden my bike in Alaska. Sounds interesting. Am planning a trip to Anchorage at some point, maybe do the 400 km brevet to Seward and back?

I think they're having a bit of difficulty with lack of snow.

It looked like it was going to be a mess but the course ended up being super fast (although slick with a lot of ice, most racers had studs) and the record was crushed by John Lackey with a time of 1 day 18 hours and 32 minutes for the "short" option!!
