Anyone else had problems with Probikekit ?

Ordered a set of wheels from them.. 10 days later they email me saying still not shipped my order.. Had to call, for them to tell me, they're never going to be able to fufill my order.

Now i'm 10 days out without any wheels, loosing any chance of getting a good discount as these were last yrs model, and now out of stock at other vendors. Wasn't prepared to offer me any discount on the replacement product.

It's turning out to be a complete nightmare.

Anyway... Thought i'd mention my experience with Probikekit and its basically a company you should beware about doing business with.

PBK has good days and bad days. I usually only order small bits, tires, tubes from them.

Although, I was a little upset on Monday when they wanted to charge me $20 shipping for a handful of tubes even when their website said "free shipping" all over it.

Thing that annoyed me the most was the lack of customer service. Waiting 10 days to tell me, we haven't shipped your order yet.. Then having to call them myself asking what was going on, only to be old 'oh we can't get them anymore' Then not offering any form of discount on an alternative..

THEN !!!!!!!!! Telling me they were unable to refund me my money to the same card, in which i had to spend over an hr getting Visa involved who told them they could... All in all, its been a miserable experience... Won't ever be using them again.

The one or two times I've dealt with them everything went just fine, so I'm not going to be able to be grumpy about them with you.

I'm actually British (living in the USA) so can ***** a little... Customer service in the USA is so much better for this kind of thing... UK seems behind on giving a little CS when they mess up... Had they offered some help other than we'll s.happens kind of attitude i wouldn't be ranting.

Ask if they can tighten you back up with a discount on a current production model.

Carbon or aluminum?

Honestly, if you're not looking for anything special, I'd look at Nashbar or Performance.

For carbon clinchers, finding a set under $500 is going to be a bit difficult unless you go used or don't mind them being heavy.
For aluminum, I have no experience with these, but I know a lot of people on here run them with good results...under 1500g and only $330 (minus 20% right now)

I've also had pretty poor customer service from PBK. Nothing major, but enough to push me towards their competitors. Always baffles me when online retailers don't fight to retain customers given the availability of alternative vendors.

Yeah just to chime in on this thread with current data for the next person wondering. I've used Merlin, Ribble and PBK a lot. PBK's orders always take forever to get to me. Normally they "sit in customs" for weeks on end until I email PBK and ask what's up. Then mysteriously the package starts moving again. Makes me suspect they ship without the proper customs documentation but who know. All I do know is the other companies always get stuff to me within a week and usually much less. With PBK you better be ready for a month or two. I think my latest order is my last with them because of this.

Here are A few of my orders from UK online retailers from last year.
I like CRC,PBK and Merlin.Wiggle and CRC merged same owner/owners.

CRC-Tool kit,cables,tires and tubes.Dec order,took about A week,very happy.
PBK -2 orders last year-Last order was A set of wheels-Oversize box took about 2 weeks to reach Oregon,Very happy.
Planet X-1st time order.Order 2 sets of tires and some tubes about 10 days before Xmas.Took about 3 weeks.
Went from Royal to USPS need to sign.Would use again.
Ribble Do not care for at all.1st order received in less then A week.Second ordered they said they shipped.
But never received anything after about 6 weeks I had to file A dispute with my CC to get my goods or money back.Took over 3 months to receive some tires, tubes and A rear cassette.
