Research into Cyclist Visibility and Communicating Movements to Other Road Users

Hello! My name is Killian Castner and I'm a senior at the Rochester Institute of Technology studying Industrial Design. I'm in the midst of a senior thesis addressing issues of cyclist visibility and communicating movements to other road users. I created a survey to gauge the percentage of cyclists using lighting accessories and how they signal when riding. The results of this survey will be used to determine the functionality and user interface of safety and lighting product I will be designing. The end result will be judged by a thesis panel and may be considered for eventual funding to go towards commercialization. If you wouldn't mind taking the survey it would be greatly appreciated. It is only 11 questions and should take less than 2 minutes to complete. The data from the survey will be posted here in a couple of weeks. The end result of this thesis will also be posted here when completed later in May.

Thank you!

What is your thesis? What are you trying to prove or disprove?

I like how this student has their own logo. Bad freakin' ass. I might just fill this survey out again to give them more data to work with! [kidding!]

Moved from Commuting.

Don't forget to share the results of your survey (as that is a prerequisite for allowing surveys here on Bike Forums).

Hey guys!

Thank you for participating and thanks for the compliments on the logo.
To address some of your questions:
@RPK79: I'll get that gift card in the mail shortly
@alan s: I'm studying Industrial Design so the department is calling this a "senior thesis" but it's more of a design project with a greater emphasis on research and with a formal write-up. So I'm not necessarily trying to prove or disprove anything. It's more researching a problem (cycling visibility and effectively communicating movements to other road users) and creating a solution in the form of a design for a product that helps to solve this problem. I have a rough idea of what the end product will be right now but don't want to give away too much yet. We (I have a partner on this project who is a Computer Engineering major) may also be looking into a few patents in the not too distant future as well so I will likely disclose the overall product but keep some of the finer details a little more confidential. I will be posting some progress work on my website (particularly in the blog) at https://killiancastner.com/blog
There's nothing up for it yet but there will be soon and in the mean time there's a tasty cooking post that I did last week.

-Killian
