My thinking was that something I either entered in Zwift was wrong or something else was going on. I didn't delve in because I needed get ready for work (MGTOW 2950 KGs, 450KGs fuel, burn rate 72 GPH....oh, never mind). I'm using my PowerTap, which the Zwift Dongle reads correctly. It reads cadence and HR correctly, too. It makes up speed based on what it says the gradient vs. power is. So, I agree - something basic is off. For instance, I did that Watopia climb holding 140 watts (give or take ten watts), and i did it in 5 something minutes (I think), but only traveling at around 5 MPH average. At 85 - 90 RPM, with the PowerTap telling me I was going 22 MPH.

I'll look tonight and let you know what I find.

I only rode Zwift a couple of times but I noted that they show hill gradient on the display. So if the grade is 10% then 4 to 5 mph would make sense. If your speed is too low for the W/kg on a grade then Zwift thinks you are heavier than you are assuming they using your power.

I haven't checked yet, but I have a sneaking suspicion I entered my "old" weight in Zwift. I'm ** pounds lighter, now. I'll check that this week.

Did the TTTF ride tonight, which is a TT bike group ride consisting of three laps of Richmond. This is the first time I've ridden a TT bike on Zwift, and it is very different. Speeds are higher, and there is no draft. We did about 2.5 on the first lap, 3.0-4.0 on the second lap, and then all out on the last lap with KOM's for the final three climbs. I took the first two but ran out of gas on the final climb. That's where my lack of VO2Max kills me. I'm good for three minutes but I can't sustain anything longer without a slow death.

FYI, the next three Fridays at 5pm EST are going to be street sprints. I will get my ass kicked but I cannot wait for that.

Tomorrow I am doing a two hour Sufferfest ride with the club at a sponsor shop.

^^ 2 hour Sufferfest, fun times! I was just going to try to figure out how to coordinate with you this morning but now don't have to. None of the rides in my time window are the right pace so I'm just going to go ride - if anyone here wants to connect ping me!

Yeah it's a club event. I got invited at the last minute but I thought I'd give it a try. My legs don't have a lot in the tank so I expect to get publicly flogged.

Did a little sprint work on the flat loop. I was winding up every other lap starting at about the sprint banner before the 90 deg turn, jumping hard at the sprint start and hanging on. It's about an 8 min lap so perfect timing between. The trainer does not like >1000W but I was spinning these up pretty good, focusing on holding leg speed. A little over 140 rpm, good to see.

I wonder if Zwift could figure out a way to score a points race? Would be either a riot or total chaos on that short loop.

Zwift doesn't do this natively but there people who have written external programs to handicap and score races. This is a topic for the other Zwift thread.

Im going to do the Team ROL group ride tonight.

Turns out the Team ROL is a ladies ride (Roll On Ladies). I was being a very good boy yet there were complaints about "the men". I cranked it up a notch with a few other clueless men like myself and we had some fun at the end. Mopped the road up in the sprint, hitting a PB.

Tonight it's the Underground Race. I love these. Easy and safe to sit in the field.

Did most of the ZUL (C) underground race last night. This is one where you switch the clock back on your computer so that you are with a small group on the other course that is not being used. There were 8 of us in my group. Pace was a solid 3.0-3.5 with lots of surges. We did the Watopia figure 8 which means a long and steady climb. I came close to popping but never went off the back. VO2 is very hard for me now in my untrained state. It was interesting to watch the others. There were some really good drafters in my group, put me to shame. This is something I want to work on. I think the trick is to try and maintain steady power. I was all over the place. Anyway this is a very late event for me on a work night so I sprinted after two laps and sat up.

Did the Back To Work ride tonight. This is supposed to be 2.0-3.0, and true to form it was 3.0 to 4.0. The leader says roll out easy and boom it's 3.2. The front group put 5 mins. On the leader before he started shouting for us to slow down, ya right. We were going up a grade overtaking a large group of slower riders when the front attacks and I got gapped behind them. I chased for a minute but that was futile. I ended up with two others in the second group doing a steady 2.5-3.5 but one of them kept attacking the snot out of me. So I did what a good rider would do and sucked his stinking wheel for the rest of the ride. Attack after attack at 5,6,7 but he couldn't drop me. I smoked him in the sprint. Serves him right.

You have to set it back as many days as needed to reach the last course switch. Richmond was last used on Sunday so for today that would be back two days.

Did the STL race ride this afternoon. I got laid off today so I had time to ride a bit more. This is a coached race ride on Watopia. 1st lap 2.0-2.5, 2nd lap 2.5-3.5, 3rd lap 3.0-4.0, 4th lap all out race. I worked hard on pacing to save energy but I got caught a few times surrounded by interlopers and had to chase. On the last lap the front attacks hard. I stuck for about half a lap but could not stick and dropped back. Two others joined and I had to respond to repeated attacks. Took the sprint at the end. We finished about 8 seconds behind the leaders.

I got a severance, and I only have 5-7 years left before I retire anyways. I have options. It may be a blessing in disguise. We shall see.

I'm probably going to be off the bike for a few days.

I did the Euro WWR ride today. Target was 2.5-3.0, which we did on the first lap. The rest of it kept ramping and ramping until the last lap as at ZTR-A speed. Totally unexpected. I hung until the end of the esses, when the front was ramping up for the final sprint. I rolled in about 15 seconds back.
