2015 Race Stats

Hi, since some of you have come to this sub forum during my brief sabbatical, I'll start by saying that I generally subscribe to philosophy that racing is the best training. On top of that, I race because I enjoy the sensations of a race and because I like to push myself physically. Otherwise, I am quite average at this sport (and too fat).

For 2015:

35 road races and criteriums (1 win, 5 DNFs including 1 mechanical and 1 crash)
11 time trials (1 win)
2 track races - 500 M time trial, 4 Km team pursuit

Primarily because of business travel, this is the fewest number of races that I've done for a number of years.

Anyone else care to post some stats? BTW, this isn't a 'someone wins' thread because despite winning two races, most of my finishes were in the bottom half of the field.

Cleave, you may not get many replies because most people have posted their results already. I know I have. But I'll respond with a little recap.

I spent the first half of my year prepping for the Planet Ultra KOM Series. Planet Ultra | Cycling Events and Tours King of the Mountains Century Challenge My goal was a women's top 10 finish, I got 9th. Happy with it, good showing for a first attempt.

In June, I rode a 20K TT on my road bike, loved it and bought a TT bike, then rode 6 more. 3 wins, 3 2nd places. Mostly I've done ok because my competition has been thin. But it's appropriate to my experience level, once I know what I'm doing & get stronger, I can go out & race with the big girls.

We're still in the middle of the SoCal TT series, so I feel mid-season not end-of-season. I had the big endurance season Dec-May and then a break over the summer. And now the TT season Sept to April.

21 crits: no wins, 3 podiums*. Only 3 finishes were outside the top 10, so, lots of almost-good-enough. One season-ending (but fully recovered from) crash. * Well I guess 6 west coast style podiums.

3 RRs: no wins, no podiums.

This was the most races I've done in a season and is probably about the max that my life/work/family schedule can handle. I expect to do about the same number and mix of races next year, but hopefully I can convert some of those 5th-7th places into something better.

Race Total 26
Win Total 5
Podium Totals 9
Top Ten totals 13
State Champ 3
State Medals 5
National Medals 2

Spine surgery at the end of February and injury prior meant this year was a big question mark. Never really got past 90%; toss in some guile and sprint work and it turned out to be not terrible on paper. I didn't do a single road individual time trial all year; in the past this had been a big part of my racing, and win totals. 4 of the wins and all but one of the medals came in team events. Some times I was carried, sometimes I did the carrying.

Started out okay and got sick in March and recovered in September and maybe fixed. We will see. Also, injured leg, shoulder and neck to add to the suffering and restricted more training and racing. All three injuries are fixed.

Hill climbs - one podium and completed 5 low key hill climbs - October through November.

TT - Two at Santiago Canyon in Socal and one in Norcal.

Track - three TT LAVRAs at Carson.

All in all...pretty weak but back now.

You're making me think!

2015 was my best season yet. Things jelled for me, and rather than chasing rabbits, I concentrated on races I could actually contend in. I improved a lot in TT's, my climbing improved, and I started using my head. That was huge!

I did 22 races.

I won a State Championship with my team in the district team time trial.

I won a State Championship in my age grade in the district criterium.

I won the 40K road race in the Pasadena Senior Games outright.

I won my age grade in the 5K time trial at the Pasadena Senior Games.

I won my age grade in the 40K road race at the Bay Area Senior Games.

I podiumed in several road disciplines several times over.

My time trial times came down by a significant percentage over the course of the season.

I'm looking forward to 2016, and the first training race is next weekend, an Early Bird Criterium.

Wow, if 35 races and 2 wins defines "average" and "fat", I'm toast! That would be a dream season for me.

14 races for me this year (my third full season) split between 8 crits, 3 RRs, and 3 TTs. Best finish 11/44, average finish mid-field.

Two notable firsts for me this year: first time hitting the pavement and first time travelling to a race and not starting due to forgotten equipment, in this case shoes. Doh!

New team this year, hoping to see steady improvement in fitness and race-craft.

35 races? Holy Crap On a Crac*er (Saltine)!

I did:
1 training crit. I suck at those. I'll see if I can get permission to do the 4 that are in Feb and March just for something different.
6 ITT; best placing was a 2nd. Took 2nd in the series (CAT5)
