Sounds like fun, Hermes.

Fewer hours at higher intensity is making me fat. I'm no longer in a position to harass that fatty A'Jet.

It's all muscle.:thumb:

You're fat? Where? Both of you, listen to you!! Now, me, however.... ;~p

Okay, light stuff: Cross Training, anyone (you've probably seen it)?

Pretty funny. The cats seemed to fair the best.

I'm a fatty 185 now. Just saying.., you know me, 185 pounds of romping stomping death and destruction, too light to fight, dont worry about flight, and too smooth to lose...

Okay, I'll go with that...

AJ, I was at 191.6 this morning. Ack! I'm doing some extra time on the way home, on top of the 5' power test I've been assigned. I repeat the 5' test tomorrow morning, but on the TT bike. My power on the TT bike is definitely lower than on the road bike, and it will be interesting to see how the two tests compare.

Good luck doing anything after a CP5 test besides collapsing.

Just have to limp home from the area where there are no lights for a couple of miles. 30-40' of recovery, assuming I believe recovery is possible at 105*.

shovelhd 06-15-12 02:42 PM

I limped home, about 5 miles, mostly uphill. It took 45 minutes. I wanted to grab a car mirror for a tow.

Good luck burying yourself.

I'm glad that I not the only one who can ride that slow without falling over. Actually it's a skill. :D

I believe that recumbent riders practice their slow speed balance.:innocent:

I was on the Felt, smart guy. :p

AZTallRider I have had as many as 50+ racers. Last Sat I raced and we had 35+/45+/55+ in fast race. I was being pulled by my 40 year old team mates avg 22+mph and we got lapped on 8th lap and we pulled! I was pissed because we were doing well together but, I guess the race director thought it would be safer to pull us. There were 13 racers my age and in the results I placed 6th. I understand the need to move the race along but, in the women's races they separated Cat 3 from Cat 4 and both had no more than 10 racers in each race. I guess you are correct that I'm just getting my feet wet. Thanks for the advice!

AzTallRider 06-15-12 09:03 PM

I was able to make it home okay (16mi in an hour, slightly downhill ;). The test came in at 4.50 w/Kg, which is now my best duration on the e-wang chart.

The point I was trying to make was, it's going to be tough to do another workout afterwards. Did you go out again? Did you even think it was possible?

AzTallRider 06-16-12 09:08 AM

No workout after the CP5, just limped home and pretty much collapsed. And I misstated my schedule. I did an hour of pace and 30' of FTP crossovers this morning, and was still feeling yesterday (not too strong; not too smooth). The CP5 on the TT bike is tomorrow, not today. And after the CP5, which is part of about an hour on the TT bike, I switch to the road bike for an hour of pace work. That won't be easy!

Hopefully I won't appear too wiped out when we go to see (are you listening AJ?) Keb' Mo' perform tonight. :thumb:

Hmm. I'm beginning to think that either you're crazy, or I'm lazy.

Ex and I are playing with shorter intervals, to see where I am and how much I progress. Total weekly effort (TSS) has been pushing up, but without longer base, which won't start until October. On top of that, I'm trying to build a foundation of strength on the TT bike, and get things optimized. Right now, it isn't clear whether my position is too low, or if I just need to build strength. I'm going to capture some video this weekend, and once I can get it edited and uploaded (the harder part!) I'll provide a link. And of course, there is the skills side. I'm horribly erratic in my power application, and still have a long way to go in improving my power conservation in the crit's. Then there is a competitor analysis I'm trying to pull together - I have a long list!

Chasm, you seem like a smart man:thumb:, I thought you had the crazy part figured out for the 50+ racer types.:D I really doubt that you are lazy with the riding, training and touring you do. Ride Safe my English friend!

I'd would love to see Kevin Moore live. I think we have most of his cd's. Enjoy! We did see L'il Ed and the Blues Imperials a few weeks ago.

Blew a crit today. Was in a 4 then 3 man break for long time, with 4 to go they threw a $30 prime out and I didn't contest and let the 2 riders get 50 meters. I didn't have the legs to bridge up and finished the last few laps solo ahead of the field. Shame on me for being passive.

Racer Ex 06-16-12 07:20 PM

My day is over in the "Guess Racer Ex's 2k Debacle Time" 33 thread. 2k not good.

Really happy about my 500m though, and Hermes and partnered up with another rider and did a very respectable team sprint. Would have been better but I under geared and did a hamster impression on the closing lap.

Hermes 06-16-12 07:56 PM

PR'ed in 2k pursuit and executed my schedule almost perfectly. I beat my previous time by 2 seconds. PR'ed in the 500 by ummm .03 seconds but I will take it since I beat my last LAVRA 500 by 3 seconds. Team sprint was a blast and at 52.4 second for 750 meters, it would have won Nationals 50+ in 2010 at Frisco assuming track conditions were similar.

In the team sprint, Racer Ex and I were fortunate that we got a great racer to do the second lap. He ended up 3rd in the flying 200 meters with a ridiculously fast time. We only had one practice race so we did not have the opportunity to work out perfect gearing. My gear was a little too big and Racer Ex was too small. I think we can take a couple of seconds out of that time with better gearing and practice.

The pairing of the racers for pursuit was done alphabetically. So R'Ex and I got paired together. He should have raced head to head with KK, the guy who did a 2:25. Plus there were some other pairings that were not that great. We could have much better racing if racers put down their estimated pursuit time and the organizers structure the start for maximum competition. R'Ex had to pass me in lap 5 and it took some extra juice which got him off schedule.

My wife came in 3rd for the women's 2K and PR'd by .5 seconds in the 500.

It was a totally great day of racing and hanging out.

ericm979 06-16-12 08:05 PM

Congrats on all the PRs.

Did the "keep up with the A group ride" this morning, it's here. I was second wheel until we hit the first climb, and though I managed almost 14MPH up the hill, I went off the back. Those guys and gals are stronger than I am. As I told a rider who said as she was going by me, "I didn't know you were here." - "I was on the front but I'm working my way to the back". I chased the ensuing five miles or so, in the wind on my own, and actually rode much better than I thought I did at the time. The climbs, when they came, weren't very good, but I did okay on the flats (especially considering that I had no one to work with) and the descents were very good. I averaged 15 MPH over the 45 total miles, not bad, but not good enough. At coffee at the end of the ride, I found out I wasn't as "OTB" as I thought. I was sandwiched between two groups, neither of which I saw. I guess that's not too bad. I discovered that my body DOES need a little rest, my hip plexors and IT bands were talking to me the whole ride. I dug in, dug deep, and pushed through - truly STFU and HTFU. I thank you guys for that! I spent well over an hour in Z4 land, with a short foray into Z5 (which hurt, a lot).

Getting there, slowly...
