Gary and I have exchanged PM's. He pointed out that I misattributed something in the past to him, and I want to publicly apologize for that. I never said specifically what that was, so I won't open an old can of garbage by being any more specific. Nothing to be gained by that.

Carry on...

Sigh. I have to teach a course on the history of buddhism to a group of teacher trainees. Our admin found the difficult to find and expensive text book I'll apparently be using to write the curriculum from. It just showed up. Apparently I'll be reading this on the rocks in Maine instead of the Merckx biography.

I spent my Maine vacation dodging rain showers and looking for a job. HTFU.

LOL. I'm awaiting delivery of the newly revised edition of a $70 tome on Project Management Metrics and how to properly 'visualize' them in dashboards. In the mean time I'm enjoying the latest Odd Thomas book on my iPhone. Odd is in deep stuff this go around.

We're HP based: PPM, APM, etc, etc. Thre letter acronyms bursting out the seams. The tome I'm awaiting is this one:

Ok, but Clarity is the standard PM toolset for doing exactly what you are trying to do. Just sayin'.

I tested the 11-32 XG1090 cassette and Wifli derailleur I got for Everest this morning. It's noisy and the chain derails if I back pedal in the big ring and a large cog. Adjusting the tension to change the position of the derailleur did not change either problem. I may go back to the Cycle Dynamics 11-30 and regular derailleur I used last year. There's a couple spots where I could use something lower than a 30t especially if my knee is still bothering me.

I wouldn't worry about either problem. If it's noisy and works pedaling forward, ship it.

The only application selection I'll be able to drive is the business intelligence we'll layer on top of everything. Way too far down the road on everything else.

I have a 12-27 on my bike, if I go to a 12-30 do I need a new derailleur for a 50/34 compact and a new chain, that is 2 links longer?

I don't know for certain, but I was able to go from a 12-27 to 12-30 with a SRAM Red RD and the only thing I did was adjust the B-screw. Didn't even change chains. YMMV.

Hi, made it out of LA traffic and up to Lone Pine. Forgot how nice it is in the Eastern Sierras. Hoping that a 39 X 29 will be enough for tomorrow's first stage to Horseshoe Meadows climb. I've never used a gear that low in any race and I don't plan on using it unless I totally blow up. Stage 2 is up Whitney Portal Road and when I last raced up that road in the 1980s I was at least 20 lbs lighter and used a 42 X 23. Hoping the 39 X 29 is good for that too.

Here it is, Hermes. I actually considered driving out to do this, but my sanity inexplicably returned.

^^ A lot of track racers bring a road bike for warming up. My guess is that she didn't have her track bike with her when they staged this shot.
