@Voodoo76 I suspect is is the center of gravity shifting forward when you go down hill. I have a similar problem with my road bike. Try sliding back on the saddle and take a little weight off your hands. I bet it goes away.

As the center of gravity shifts to put more weight on the front of the bike, I suspect the fork resonates. To dampen the oscillations one must change the mass, stiffen the system or reduce stimulus or speed.

Flat or uphill my bike is fine but downhill is lousy. The other thing to do is put your thigh on the top tube and it will probably stop oscillating. I have toyed with getting a different fork or just sell the frame. I suspect it will be fine for someone else with a different weight and geometry from me.

I was having the same problem at the track when I put on the drop bars and kept the seat forward. I picked up a shimmy at high speed. Moving the seat back solved the problem.

Good luck

Anybody else in that area good for fitting Masters? It's been a couple of years since my last fit and I have a new frameset coming in at the end of August (hopefully!), so it'd be a good time to do it assuming I'm back on the bike by then.

I certainly hope to be! However, this is one of those things I want to ensure I do right the first time so I don't have to waste time doing it right the second time.

Hermes, interesting observation. It does seem like the steeper the grade the shakier it feels, even at low speeds. I may even be unconsciously sliding up a bit, easier to put knees on the top tube which does help.

Sounds like @Bandera is just trying to get me back on a fixed gear.

Guilty as charged!

Here's a pic of some guy descending:
Elbows bent, relaxed & firmly in charge looking through the corner in a big gear moving fore-aft as required and on the drops.

One totally bad ass dog:

I'm no doubt biased in the Chessie department, but they are tough dogs at their core. Surviving 9 months on her own and through an Idaho winter...

Lol dachshunds are that way too. Very tough dogs, always making it through Idaho winters out in the elements like there was nothing to it.

One time, one of my doxies slept the entire night with no blanket. It was rough. Went into full-on survival mode and came out intact on the other side of dawn.

Real life true dog story.

At work, we have a white board in the emergency room and I pass it every morning when I come in to work. It behooves me to know what's on that board, because some of it could me coming my way and that's useful to know before I head in to rounds to organize my day.

One morning, I'm walking through the ER and things are unusually quiet. No one's around, there's just a Rhodesian Ridgeback standing there with her leash looped onto a hook on the exam table. I look at the ER board and there's one thing on it: Mountain Lion Attack.

Well that should be worth seeing, I wander around and can't find any gore. Finally one of the nurses comes back and she's unhooking the Ridgeback's leash.

"Hey, what's up with the Mountain Lion Attack?" I ask.

"This is it," she tells me, as the dog trots off.

Haha the mountain lion attacked her and she attacked it right back. Just one little cut on her lip which didn't even need stitches. There is amusing backyard surveillance video of a scared lion hightailing it over the owner's fence, with a p-o'ed Ridgeback in hot pursuit.

Juvenile lion, I would guess.

As I am preping some bikes for this weekends 40K the wife comes out to the shed and asks.... "Why do you have two of the same bikes?"

I respond.. Spare for when I crash next.

She was *not* amused

The one on the right is a team mates with my wheels. She has a shot at a podium. Me. not so much

I had a similar but far more disingenuous conversation circa '88:

GF: "Didn't you tell me that you are Done with mountain bikes on the way back from the Emergency Room?"

(The following dialogue was accompanied by my attempting a tap-dancing routine ala the Mills brothers.)

Bandera: " Oh, this thing? That well, er, um isn't my mountain bike I'm just checking it out for Jerry."

GF: "Jerry? The track racer Jerry who refuses to ride anywhere but the track, Jerry?"

When it gets older I hope it grows a bigger chainring set. The 50T big one isn't big enough for that club TT it does.
