Thanks to Sara putting us in contact, I got to host IBOHUNT for our team ride this morning. Awesome day for a ride. Perfect weather, and just a great, well-paced ride of 53 miles. I have been fading a bit towards the end of these, but not today. Still not fast, but feeling more myself.

shovelhd 11-29-14 04:34 PM

So he didn't crush you and leave you in the desert for the dingos?

sarals 11-29-14 06:22 PM

IBO told me he passed on my message to you before he got dropped! I'm so glad you were able to connect. It was my pleasure to help out!

Openers this morning for a cross race tomorrow. The race promises to be a rainy one if the forecast holds. We transported a person with bacterial meningitis two days ago, and we (the crew) were required to do a course of cypro, prophylaxis, and.... Well, I don't feel so good. The openers and form sprints felt fine, but as the day has worn on, I've felt crummier and crummier. Cypro wreaks havoc with one's GI bugs. It beats the alternative, I guess. I was told to eat some yogurt. I will. Here's hoping I feel better tomorrow. I'm racing whether I feel good or not!

shovelhd 11-29-14 07:45 PM

Cipro is nasty. Best to you, Sara.

revchuck 11-29-14 08:49 PM

Sara - I don't envy you that Cipro regimen. Yuk.

Four hour endurance pace ride on the schedule for tomorrow, weather will be partly cloudy and temps in the 60s. Ain't doing it - head is all stopped up, nose is in faucet mode and wife is wanting to hit the emergency room for something she has and can't figure out what it is.

On the plus side, I've found that a half inch of honey and a couple inches or so of Jameson's makes a tolerable cough syrup.

Cleave 11-29-14 10:28 PM

I guess bacterial meningitis isn't as bad as Ebola in terms of what you'd have to do post-exposure. Regardless, sorry to hear about the need to take an antibiotic.

Have fun in the dirt.

Hope your race went well Sara. Too bad you needed to take one for the team, but I guess in your field that is a regular occurrence.

The off season is over and training commences.

Three hours on the fixie riding rail road ballast, tall grass, gravel bike trails, rooty mtb trails and even some pavement. I had the GoPro on the bike today and my coach confiscated it after the ride. I suspect he wants to use some of the video for his web page that touts his group fixie rides.

I did get to put the new Redline SSCX to the test today. I rode the bike last week on paved roads but today was the real deal. The FSA seat post uses two bolts and on a section of really big loose rail road ballast stone the seat rattled loose. It was a quick fix and there were no other issues with the bike other than letting air out of the tires while getting the seat back in order. Seventy lbs. in the 38 mm cross tires made for a rattling ride.

For reasons unknown, I rode very strong the whole ride today, even after 2.5 hrs of Z2/3 yesterday.

Nice ride A'Jet. Maybe you left the red chain home.:innocent:

doppelgänger.

I took the SSCX bike out and did a very similar ride. Ridley shadowed me for the first 30m then cut me loose. Started sleeting on me at the end, took a bit of a soak to get feeling back in the hands.

Obtuse guy that I am I spent a bit of time screwing around with shoe covers before I woke up to the nice pair of Lake winter boots I have had for years sitting on the shoe rack. Rediscovering my winter gear.

First day in a while without guests at the house.

I just had a nice holiday weekend with rides all 4 days. Friday and Saturday were record breaking high temperatures, and I was able to do my low-cadence intervals on some nice local climbs. Yesterday I was going to ride the Superior Morgul course -- left my house at 8:00 at 54 degrees, at 9 it was 48*, at 9:15 it was 28* and I was on the verge of frostbitten fingers. Called my husband to pick me up since I was an hour away from home. That's the first time that happened, but I'm glad I did it - one of my fingertips still hurts.

sarals 12-01-14 11:02 AM

Valygrl, I'm glad you called your hubby, too! I did a ride like that last week, and I "toughed it out". Not good. Wise move, girl.

Doing a short, easy 30 minute recovery ride today. I've got to swap wheels around so I can have power. Sometimes that's a pain in the butt - like today. Oh, well.

sarals 12-04-14 01:56 PM

Long endurance ride today, pace range (mostly). Programmed three hours, made two and one half. Legs felt pretty heavy, but I pushed through. I wasn't as smooth and consistent today as I should be. 2277 feet of climbing, TSS of 243

shovelhd 12-04-14 02:23 PM

Two and a half hours of tempo would beat the crap out of me.

revchuck 12-04-14 02:35 PM

Haven't been on the bike since Saturday. I was sick Sunday, and since then have been taking care of my wife - two days in the hospital, long drive to doctor's appointment yesterday, and ER again this morning. Tomorrow will get me back into it, hopefully - drop the truck off at the Ford dealer at 0700 for a brake job and oil change, ride for an hour or so, and come back and pick up my pickup.

shovelhd 12-04-14 07:57 PM

Best to you and Mrs. revchuck.

Allegheny Jet 12-04-14 08:56 PM

Hope everything goes well for Mrs. revchuck.

sarals 12-04-14 09:04 PM

Chuck, healing thoughts to your wife!!!!

It beat me up pretty good! But, that was expected.

revchuck 12-05-14 04:44 AM

Thanks, all! She's doing much better.

Good to hear! Positive thoughts, revchuck.

sarals 12-06-14 12:22 PM

Strength training yesterday, two cycles of the program. I felt pretty good afterwards, except that my lower back will not let me do a proper situp. :(

Then, when I was climbing the stairs to the office at work, I fell. I bruised my left forearm and left a knot on my left wrist, but all feels fine today. No short sleeves for a while, though....

Cleave 12-06-14 01:34 PM

@revchuck, best to the missus. Glad to hear she is better.

revchuck 12-06-14 07:29 PM

1:26 at endurance pace today, first ride in a week. I decided to push it for about five minutes towards the end of the ride, just to do it. Not a max effort, but still my best five minute AP in at least a year. It was one of those times when my AP was greater than my NP, though just by a couple of watts.

My wife is feeling well enough today to chew me out.
