Rode my bike today with a friend. It turned into a training ride, with some fast up, and faster down. If this keeps up, I'll consider myself ready to formally be somewhat prepared to acknowledge that I might be close to starting something that resembles training.
Have a new stem length, rear wheel, and a minor setback adjustment on the new bike. A couple more mods, a professional fit, and this bike will be as close to perfect a ride as I've ever had on a race bike. Man this @#$% is fun......................we're some lucky people here!!!! |

Seems I've been living in the garage, on a TT bike. I need a radiant heater shining on my feet to keep them warm, which is a complete counter to the sweat coming off the rest of my body. I'm still OK with it.

Yes we are. It's all fun until it becomes a 2nd job then it's no fun; at least for me that's what happens. Spent way to many miles on the road chasin arrows...
Last year, the balance started to get out of wack, and I decided to put my thumb on the fun scale. As far as results, I'm reminded of the phrase "Do what you love, and the money will follow." I do have one race that I plan on leaving my mark on this year. We'll see how my scale works in Oct. |

Been there, done that. Quit the sport many years ago. This time around, I weight the enjoyment, over the commitment to attain results. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

I keed, I keed...best of luck! |
Positive thoughts your way, Racer Ex. I hope it all goes smoothly.

Long day in the saddle planned today. If everything goes according to schedule, I'll get to ride in a little rain, snow, and then some sun. |
@Racer Ex Glad the surgery went well and you are on your way to recovery and focused on the positive.
I was relieved that it truly was back surgery and not that the 30 day ExtenZe trial failed.:D |
@Racer Ex, glad to hear that everything went well with your surgery. Looking forward to hearing about a speedy recovery and epic training blocks.
|
@nacler22, hope it was very little rain and snow.

Well, it definitely looks like my spring training plans have gone awry. I will be commuting to Everett, WA every other week into May. This past week was so busy that I didn't have time to research spin class and bike storage options. We'll call it even as a rest week. ;) Will be home this coming week and then back in Everett the week after. If I can figure out where to leave a bike, I will probably bring my single-speed rain bike up there with a gallon of chain lube. :D
The calendar for Marymoor looks like there are races almost every weekday night starting in May. Can't find any info on open training sessions before then. |
No snow, but at the first rain drop, Pandora slotted in this song. Must have some karma around me. Ended up with 25 PR's, :twitchy: all on the downs.. :D ..........this new bike is gonna get me in trouble. Cleave, sorry to hear about your less that optimal training situation. I assume that your employer understands the sacrifice that you are making, but it could be that all the Master's in SOCAL, collective bargained with them, to ensure that you were away half the spring. :D |
@Racer Ex Glad to hear it went well.

I've been confined to the trainer due to weather this week. I did manage to get out today and do a recovery ride before work. In spite of all of my (and my employer's) efforts to screw up my fitness for the stage race this coming weekend, I'm still riding pretty well. Coach has had me doing some tough intervals, long ones, and I've hit and sustained the targets on each and every one. That is encouraging! Still, the proof is in the pudding....I am going to line up as a M 35+ Saturday and Sunday (Cat 3 and up, challenging), and we'll see how it goes. On a sour note, one of my teammates fractured her pelvis in a crit two weeks ago (she just discovered she had a hairline fracture after lingering pain). She and I are the same age, and I was SO looking forward to racing with her. I think she's going to be out for a while. You just never know how the chips will fall, do you?
