TT's are called the "Race of Truth", and to paraphrase Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, some people can't handle the truth.
On the EIA I don't know if your friend is using the inhaler as a prophylactic, but that's what I was advised to do by several MD's. I'll take several doses depending on how I react prior to any exercise. Windy days can make the EIA especially bad, a lot of particulate gets stirred up.
Getting back in the groove after being sick. 3 consecutive trainer sessions leading into 4.5 hours of DH skiing yesterday. My mogul-fu was strong, legs felt really snappy and I was popping through the deep stuff.
And it's all about timing. We arrived at one of the "back lot" access points, two chair lifts to the top of the mountain and access to the majority of the runs. Mrs. Ex was slow getting her skis on thanks to some ice build up on her boots. As we got off the first chair lift they had stopped the second lift to the summit because...a chair had fallen off. First time in 50 years of skiing I've ever seen this. The folks that were already on the lift ended up being roped down by the ski patrol, a process that took hours. We skied back down took a shuttle bus around the corner...
Skiing down a really steep narrow chute under one of the chairs saw a guy do one of these:
TKO. Not moving. Friend was calling for medical. Blew down the chute and gave the lift operators the heads up. Guy ended up sitting up but taking the sled ride down and a life flight ride. As I was dipping under the lift line rope after talking to the operators I tweaked my groin. Kept skiing. Sore today. No good deed goes unpunished.

Yard sales are cool if:
You see the person moving and they seem fine.
Yard sales suck if you see the equipment but not the individual... especially near closing. Now we're rootin' round the woods looking for someone.
Hope the guy they flew out recovers fully.
'duck under' move... Like slipping on a banana . Banana's are bad.

Recovery ride today. TT bike on the trainer. This one DIDN'T hurt...

I've never "seen" it either, but I also have been on mountains when it has happened. Not sure where you were skiing, but Heavenly has a history with this, and so does Whistler.

Now, today was more like it. In order to do a proper training ride, as in a successful race (or not), you have to engage your B R A I N. At 0600 in the morning, that's a hit and miss proposition with me. Today, not so, i did the ride at 1100. I was on the trainer again, the weather is pretty bad (even by Gulf Coast, Northeast and Mid-West standards). I had over-unders, bridge efforts, and sprints on the docket. I methodically planned how I'd approach this ride, and then I stuck to the plan and executed it. I was a bit under on the top number for the over-unders, but not by much (and NP was probably right on). The bridge was there, yes. The sprints worked, and the trainer and bike stayed upright (always a bonus). Suffice it to say - good session. TSS 48, IF .78, 1 hour.

Thanks @rapwithtom!
Imagine my surprise when I pulled the carrier out and saw this....
Setting pinion depth, then doing a set of 2x40's Z3 was hard.

A few days of intervals for me, on the trainer. I forgot how satisfying I find hitting every number with robotic precision. I can't do that on the road, always, especially with short 1 min intervals. I also just really like a good-looking power file, whether in a TT or an interval workout. I'm jazzed when it looks "right" and I know anyone who knew my FTP could look at the file & know exactly what I was trying to do. Haha, is that weird or are some of you guys motivated by the physical appearance of your data files?? Anyway, digging the trainer rides because of that.
<Seriously, I think its a useful TT pacing skill to learn how power numbers unfold and what it takes to move them in one direction or another.>
Anyway, two days of short interval workouts of 1 hour each and today an hour of recovery on the trainer. Tommorow off, openers Sat and then Piru 20k TT on Sunday. Part of the SoCal TT Series. Currently a 20% chance of rain.
@LAJ, I have no idea what that thing is you posted a pic of. But 40 min intervals are meaty stuff. I have this image of you in my head- out on your trainer in your garage gnawing away at your 2 x 40's happy as a clam like a dog chewing on a big knuckle bone.

Those did look very good, @Heathpack. Nicely done.
I do like my files to look good, and as you know, straight lines are important to me. The standing/sitting at 5 minute intervals during the thing, are starting to get easier. (?)
Hypoid gear, and that's the pinion part of the equation. Lot's of tedious work setting up a gear set, as shims are mic'd, the pattern is analyzed, and pressing bearings off and on are the name of the game. I would rather do driveability, but sometimes I have to get dirty.

Went out this AM in unseasonably high temps on the fender equipped winter/wet bike, roads were dry except in the "Low Water Crossings".
A perfectly nice young-ish fellow chatted for a bit overtaking me on the way home.
We had both just passed below the Equestrian center, a cattle operation and through a low water crossing draining sluggishly into the valley.
As he moved off into the distance w/ a pronounced brown streak on his jersey/back/bike I reflected on the British euphuism for fenders: Mudguards.
We had not just ridden through "Mud".
TX Technique: Keep your mouth closed when riding through low water crossings.

2 hour endurance ride with some anaerobic threshold efforts along the bay to the foot of San Bruno Mountain. It has been raining and the roads were wet and it was cold and damp. Not the 35 degree or less cold but 50 degrees and high humidity. I was going to ride outside but it felt clammy and wet. I got in the car to get a cup of coffee and after I left my house, the streets looked dry and the sun came out. I turned around and went home and saddled up my bike.
I did the route along the bay past SFO airport that is flat. I rode tempo most of the time and then on the way back threw in some AT efforts. It was cool but perfect for a ride. More rain is in the forecast for the next 36 hours.

There are some NorCal races I specifically avoided when it rained. One in particular in Marin County went through a lot of dairy farms. I spent a couple of decades in water quality, which included sampling runoff. That race should have had this on the flyer:
Oy flippin vay. Planned on 2 hours of Zwift today. Found my rear tire was flat. By time all was said and done 1.5 hours later I had changed two tires, a cassette, the wheel, and had the trainer apart 3 times to reset and re-calibrate to the 3rd (smaller) tire. So I road the Richmond worlds course for 35 minutes.
This is the yin/yang about being your own mechanic.

Ugh. Similar BS here. Rode my TT bike as a warmup for my strength workout. Haven't been on it in forever. Powertap battery dead, so I went to change that (because, can't do a warmup w/o power, right, it wouldn't count on trainingpeaks, sigh....) but it's a TT bike w/ horizontal dropouts, and the bike was inside in the basement and the workstand was outside/upstairs in the freezing cold garage... So, I flip the bike over, which I never do, and of course pour a full water bottle (just water luckily) on the carpet. After sopping that up and replacing the battery, I totally epic trying to get the wheel back on b/c horizontal dropouts. 35 minutes later, a soaked carpet and chainring grease tatoo on my bibs later, finally on the bike. Blah.

Yeah. I even have a certificate somewhere saying I'm a competent bicycle mechanic, but I've never enjoyed it and I've spent more time swapping groups, changing cassettes and reinstalling mudguards this year than actually riding. Never mind, there'll be a run of weeks when all we have to do is top up tyres.

I enjoy working on my bikes. I tend to batch up work and dig into it for hours when I have time. That might be because it's not my job. Once the new crank comes in the Felt is getting torn down to the frame and completely rebuilt. That's a solid afternoon of work.

2'14" in beautiful, crisp winter sunshine. A bit of threshold work but mainly just enjoying myself. TSS c.135.
Felt surprisingly strong, one of those days when I seemed to have borrowed someone else's legs. Maybe the relatively inactive period over the holidays hasn't done me any harm.

Our Hill Country FM roads have a peculiar charm all of their own w/ blind decreasing radius corners leading into eroded low water crossings covered with substances ejected from the hind end of bovines and a steep ascent or twelve rapidly following. TX Technique: Remain calm, it's only going to get much worse.

My plan was to not do a single thing today.
The snow changed that, and a snow shovel is calling my name.
