Set a new PR this morning. 1:04 at recovery pace, average HR 98 bpm. That's the lowest I've ever recorded. Would've been lower without the climbing...hit 112 bpm on one hill, even in the 34-26.

Ran to the UN and back today. Running in Midtown NYC is interesting. I passed several people on bikes. My GPS never got all the satellites....

I wish they would add "run" to the list of banned words so all I'll see is asterisks.

I've got two weeks of ***ning coming up in about a month as preparation for my thrice-yearly urologist's visit.

Rest day today and Low Key Hill Climb tomorrow - 5.6 mile climb with 6.9% average grade. The first two miles are 9%. There is a Facebook site for the series and one guy is already calculating how much time he will save if he does not use his power tap wheel. Plus, there are a lot of the big gun climbers showing up. I am working on my suffer face in the mirror. I cannot have a repeat performance of last weeks GMR HC.

***ning in NYC just seems wrong. I think one should shop and eat in NYC.

@Racer Ex, you definitely have to try the bike share system in NYC. Riding on Manhattan is like playing a video game except that your life doesn't reset if you make a mistake.

When we were there two weeks ago my wife *** from our hotel at 8th Ave and 49th St up to Central Park. She was pretty amazed at how many hardcore ***ners were training in the park in the morning. I slept in while she was ***ning. I figured since she too is a native New Yorker, that she could take care of herself.

There has been plenty of that. Doing a celebrity chef tour. Flay is way ahead, Batali dead last. Sanchez was the value meal.

I feel as though I'm in a bit of no man's land with training... with part of me being pulled into off-season-ish mode, but part wanting to keep a little edge on the blade for the remaining track events in Oct/Nov. Adding some more road miles, but not eliminating the hard track workouts just yet.

Shovel, I do, too! I made it a mission to go over to Gas Monkey Garage while I was here in DFW, and I lucked out that Richard was there when I went. He was a nice fella, very gracious. I didn't see Arron, though.

Vance, do the seasons usually end like this - just sort of Peter out? Mine ended with two crashes, and I kind of wish I could have gotten in another race. I am in off-season mode, though. I get that part! Ex is going to put an end to that, though, in about three weeks. January is not that far off.

I've been doing a lot of ****ing lately due to the fact that I, for some stupid(!) reason in March or so, thought it would be good to do the Marine Corp Marathon (Oct 27th) before I took a dirt nap. I'd never run in *ANY* event prior to this past April. What made me think I could just go out and run a marathon is beyond me at this point.

Then came the untimely death of my Giant TCR when we encountered the Ford F-150 on June 8th which took me 7 or so weeks of recovery before I could do anything physical... like walk without pain.
I've been trying to catch up on both my bike and the running part but the shoulder still isn't 100%.

Nothing like a 'couch to 26.2 miles' in 15 weeks eh?

After October it's off season and no more stinkin ****ing. I'm way to old for that garbage. Bad enough I start racing a bike at 54 yrs old (and fat) but to take up ****ing? Not one of the more wise choices I've ever made. Hopefully that 26.2 miles will go by in less than 5 hours without an ambulance being involved.

For the sake of morbid curiosity from someone in that crash recovery period (though I have no truck to blame mine on) - what all did it do to your shoulder?

I understand the post season now. It's all about licking wounds. Mine, my road rash, that is, is just about healed - finally. Getting away from the dog, who incessantly licked my boo-boos, is what it took to finally get healthy.

Last *** on the treadmill at the hotel this morning. I decided to just throw it down. I *** 3.01 miles and treated it like a TT - broke it into thirds. The first mile I warmed up, ran at Z3 or pace at a 10:30; the second mile I ramped to high Z3 and paced at 9:10; the third mile I uncorked it and ran at an 8:21, race pace. HR got to 162 and lived there and I just *** through it. Felt pretty good when I was done!

Today I have the EC135 final written test over at American Eurocopter. I finished the simulator (vertigo inducing vomet comet) yesterday. Tomorrow morning I fly out of DFW at 0637, and I'll be in MRY at 1030. By early afternoon I'll be ON THE BIKE.

Yes!!!

They defined it as a separation of the AC joint. Nothing busted just all the bits are not where they are supposed to be. I wish there was a real ball and socket there.

It looks like the pictures that are posted in the other thread. They said no surgery was needed so I'll just live out what's left of my life like Igor in Young Frankenstien and no longer be able to shoot competitive archery. It's still not right and there are times when I go to reach for someting, like a jar of shine off the top shelf, where I just get a shooting pain in it. I am going back to the Dr late this month.

Hope you heal far better than I have.

That's my TT bike name. Seems every time I finish a TT race I 'leave it all on the course'

Of course, that's a self-correcting situation. Soon after the jar of shine is down, the pain goes away.
