Second, body types are a huge part of the body fat equation. I happen to be built long and lean, but I am no Michael Rasmussen. I need a certain amount of body fat on me or I lose power. I get weak at the end of a hard day. That point is at around 138 pounds for me. I raced Nats at the front all day at 145 and had everything left at the end.

Finally, body type/body fat/power-weight are small predictors of success, no matter what Strava wants you to believe. On paper, I should be a great climber, but I'm barely good. I think it comes down to being afraid to blow up, as I have in the past. I can pace myself well for a 20 minute climb but the leaders will pace themselves just a little bit faster. A guy my size should not have the sprint that I do. It's about muscle makeup and what I train for.
You'd never believe I was petite if you looked at my weight only. But I am, I'm 5'4" and overall quite tiny. But, for some reason, I weigh more than "most" women, even some men, of my stature. My "look good" weight is 128 - 130. My "feel good" weight is 132 - 136. My "feel strong" weight is 135 - 139. I'm still trying to figure out at what weight I really need to be for this racing stuff. Oh, and I've tried to forget my weight, but I just can't. By the way - there are averages for everything physiological, but I really believe there is NO "normal". I have no idea what my BMI is (it would just be something else to stress about, and believe me, I would), but if you look at me you'd guess "can't be much". I guess my recent weight gain is largely muscle, but there is some fat there, too (I can see it). Point is, and Shovel said it, we all need some fat for fuel. I intend to run my tank dry!

I know I am close to ideal weight when I am dizzy at the end of a workout/race but that goes away after I drink my protein shake and have something to eat.

Here ya go. This looks about right to me.

https://www.wenzelcoaching.com/blog/c...-weight-chart/

I'm trying to get back down into the climber range, I am normally in there mid-season but put on a couple-three pounds in February. For some reason, February is a tough month for me.

That looks okay to me but for the masters get to add pounds. I call BS on that. And if one is a "sprinter", other than a track sprinter, one has to get to the last 200 meters with the lead pack in position to sprint. And if one is on the heavier side, assuming all muscle, if there is a hill in the course, it will put you at a competitive disadvantage.

For endurance sports, the skinner the better. It sucks and may not be healthy or attractive but it is true.

Just what we need, another ewang chart.

I'm well within the climber range, but who cares. It's just a stupid chart. Doesn't mean I can climb.

Next you'll be claiming Strava KOM's don't count.

Do not mention the acronym KOM in the same sentence as don't count. Many are hoping KOMs can be used as upgrade points and these are the Cat 2s hoping for Cat 1.

I'm on the high end of that for a sprinter. Weird.

February is a tough month for me, too. It must be that northern latitude gene pool.

I saw one of my 70+ year old teammates the other day and he was super skinny. I have known him for 6 years and this is the skinniest I have seen him. He looked haggard, frail and may get sick at any moment. He crushed San Bruno Hill climb with a PR and crushed the Canada TT with a PR which was better than he had a several years ago. He had better power to weight and power to Cda.

OMG. I've heard of Strava being used in actual HC races, as a timing device, but otherwise... yikes!

One of my lightest ever weigh-ins this morning at 186.4, but I'm not recommending my method of appetite suppression. So I stopped (well actually drove way out of my way to a great place) for sausage and eggs on the way to work. TallWife has been visiting her mom in NOLA, and I pick her up this afternoon... need to pack on a couple of pounds before she sees me.

Had you gone with her, you would've been more concerned with how to lose all those extra pounds you gained.

Soon you and Sara will weigh the same. That should give her something to think about.

Justifiable suicide and bad vacation places in Germany during the '30's and '40's....
