I am still trying to find the RR course details. It is listed as being downtown Cleveland. It could be a crit style course on city streets or ride some of the TT course that the big annual tri events use. The latter could have short steep hills that are between the downtown and lake shore. I will forward any course info to you guys as it becomes available.
The TT is scheduled in the Metroparks on a parkway that would be mostly flat, tree lined and in a valley. That should enable good racing conditions.

More detail is up on the new NSGA site. They have a Google map with street view of the cycling event area, but no turn by turn map yet.
I was looking into hotels. A lot of the hotels are jacking the prices under the "special event" banner. Fortunately, NSGA blocked out a ton of rooms through a travel agent. You can see what is available and how much. Rates are significantly discounted through the agent.
I need a room for 7/25-7/28. I am driving out from MA on 7/25. 7/26 is a rest day. 7/27 is the 40K and 7/28 is the 20K. I drive back on 7/29. Some of the hotels have no Saturday night room available right now. The best deals I have seen so far that are close to the course are:
Radisson Gateway - $130+, close to the course.
Comfort Inn Downtown - $119+, a little farther away.
Doubletree Lakeside - $129+, closest to the course.
I am leaning towards the Doubletree. I want to book this soon so I don't get locked out of the rates. Any feedback is appreciated.

I got lazy and missed the good deals. I am at the Hilton Garden Inn Cleveland Downtown, across the highway from the course. The place has a pool and a hot tub so if anyone wants to take a dip after their race just find me. I will be driving out with my kid on Thursday. Friday, rest day, Saturday, 40K, Sunday, 20K, Monday, travel day or rain date. The Indians are in town so we may go to a game. If the party is on Thursday or Friday let me know and we'll head down there.

I thought the whole trip was a party. No? I was feeling snubbed that you weren't staying at AJ's with everyone, but I guess you wouldn't want your kid sharing the Jungle room with Ex.

Don't make me come out there and kidnap you.
If I was going alone I would have gladly taken AJet up on his offer but I think it's best to do the family thing. There is a chance that Mrs. Shovel will fly out to join us and no way does she stay with Ex in the Jungle Room. It also doesn't hurt to have a home base near the course. I'll stock the fridge with beverages.

(I like this Master's forum scene...shovel knows that I am swamped work-wise. But, when I get a chance, I'll chime in.)
I am going to smoke all you suckers in the 20k and 40k. You need to train harder if you want to have a chance.
(Stick and move; not sure when I'll be back. Be nice.)

Last year I was thinking I might go to this race, along with a couple of team mates that also qualified .... Alas, zero training .... so no-go.

The cycling course is out, and I am BUMMED. It is not a downtown criterium, more of a circuit race with a turnaround. Two loops for the 20K, four for the 40K. The sprint looks like a total cluster****. At least it ends in front of the medical tent.

I can smell the burning carbon now.
I'm not surprised that it's essentially an out-and-back course. The Vegas course was like that, and I suspect they are trying to minimize corners to allow for the nature of the field, what with non-USAC riders. Definitely an interesting finish. But why are you worried about a sprint? You'll be OTF shortly after clip-in.
