Back in 1997, three friends and I did our first multi-day, self supported (credit card style) tour. We had a journal up on one of the guy's personal Verizon web sites for a few years but then Verizon took them all down. He found the flies recently and I put it back on on Cycleblaze here.

I still have that Trek 520, rode it as my main bike until 2017.

life, eh? However, I now have some idea, having ridden the GAP last summer.

I love the GAP - in 2017, twenty years after the first Old Men's Bike Tour, those same 4 guys plus wives and another dozen friends, did the GAP in a hub and spoke way - I did a Cycleblaze journal here.
