Well, I am just getting back into fitness after gaining 50+ pounds. But I'd love to hook up with ya in the spring. I'll spend the Winter in my basement on my trainer and hopefully emerge w/o those extra 50.

I am definitely planning on doing the MS150 Escape to the Lake in June and Pedal Pittsburgh in May.

Hello from another PAer. Just found his thread tonight!
I am on the Lancaster County/Chester County border.
Rode my first century last month in Maryland (The SeaGull Century). I had ridden some road last summer but not a whole lot. This year I trained with Team In Training for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Had a great time and can't wait until next spring!
Nice to "meet" ya!
Gypsy :D

Count me in for next year! Sounds like fun! I thought about doing this year's ride on my own but was away that weekend.

Cheers!

Gypsy! Welcome back!

So your first century was this year's Seagull??? You are a century goddess. I skipped that one. . . too windy.

TrekDen is right; you have to join us at the Covered Bridge ride, as well as a few others. . . the Hbg. Bike Club century is well-done, and is in September. Also, I've been doing some routes down in my home territory in Lancaster County. . . Saturday we rode through Lawn...Milton Grove...Mount Joy...Elizabethtown....a beautiful 50 mile loop out of Hummelstown. Very nice.

We'll get together one of these days!

So this summer you'll just have to plan a trip back to Lancaster County to join the crew :D

That's a great area to ride. I've done a lot of mornings down 772! Cycling down 772... veering off 772... crossing back over 772.... back onto 772... :D

Hey Beth!
Nice to chat with you again. How is the new saddle?
I will definitely join you for some rides in the spring/summer. Sounds like a great time!
Yep... SeaGull was my first. It was a cold, wet, windy 100 miles but a whole lot of fun! Finishing the century gave me more confidence in my cycling and now I can't wait to do more! :D
I'm heading up your way on Sunday... volunteering with Team In Training at a water stop at The Harrisburg Marathon. I usually get lost in Harrisburg... we'll see what happens this weekend! LOL!

RoadToNowhere 11-06-06 10:04 PM

That's great - you'll be in my backyard :) Some of our bike club folks are volunteering, but I wasn't able to get away to do so.

Have a great time, and if I can help you out with directions/food etc., PM and I'll give you a phone #

Hello everyone,

Another PA cyclist here. Near West Grove, PA. About 8 miles to the Delaware, Maryland, PA border. Just wanted to say Hi.

Morgolf

GypsyAngel 11-08-06 04:44 PM

Hi morgolf! Welcome!
I used to go to the Southern Chester County YMCA. I think that's West Grove, isn't it?

Thursday and Friday are supposed to be mid 60s with no rain... perfect cycling weather! I'm a cold weather wimp so I live for these days!!!

morgolf 11-10-06 08:22 AM

Good morning GypsyAngel,

The SCC YMCA is in Jennersville, roughly 4 miles west of West Grove. Very nice facility. My oldest son takes swimming lessons there, but we are not members.

Great morning for a ride. Have fun.

Hi Morgolf,

Welcome to the forums, from the SW side of the state.

I am in Tokyo right now but will be back in PA in a few weeks. My homebase is in Mechanicsburg PA (near harrisburg) with my college being in Lancaster. I just got my bike here in tokyo and plan to get into cycling when I get back. Is it even at all possible to ride in the winter in the areas i live in...i know it wont be as fun as riding in the nice warm sun...but still.

Also, any good clubs to help me get into cycling. I know myself and I will stick with it longer if there is a social aspect to things.

Anyway..just thought I would say hello.

Sure. It depends on what you're willing to put up with. Check weather.com and look for average temperatures. The typical riding season is April through September, but there is no reason you have to stick with that.

Harrisburg bike club rides out of Mechanicsburg, Hershey and Carlisle. The newsletter can be viewed from the website . Regular rides start in April, I think. Arrive 20-30 minutes early and say hello in person!

Radiohead84,
Welcome, welcome! This board adds to the social aspect of our cycling world. It is both entertaining, and educational.

I live in Lebanon, just north of Lancaster, and I've ridden through the last two winters. I find as long as I keep moving I don't have too much trouble staying warm, but if I ever get a flat I will probably die of exposure. (Either that or I'll learn to ride a bike with a flat tire.)
One of the advantages of riding in farm country is that most of the roads are out in the open and even after a snowfall the roads clear up with the first rays of sunshine.

Thanks for the warm welcome..i shall be home soon so we shall see how it goes. Anyone in the lancaster, york, reading, harrisburg area know a good place to buy a bike? I might not end up brining mine home with me and would be looking to buy a new one for as cheap as possible. I would be thrilled with 250 woudl do 300 and if its a nice bike i would go 400-500....but thats pushing it for me.

anyone know of used bike stores?

GypsyAngel 12-01-06 03:00 AM

Hi radiohead... welcome back to PA (when you get here!)

I use Shirk's Bike Shop in East Earl and love it. The owners are knowledgeable and helpful. They have a decent inventory and the service is great. I know they have used bikes for sale as well if you want to check them out. The address is 1649 Ligalaw Rd, East Earl, PA 17519 if you want to mapquest it. It is south of 23 and north of 322.

Lancaster has a cycling club... http://www.lancasterbikeclub.org/about.php if you want to check them out when you get home.

Good luck!
Gypsy

I bought my commuter bike from Shirks. You have to ask them for the used bikes though, they have them upstairs.
