Bike Forums - Where are the MD peoples

So, last-minute change in plans . . . I *am* going to be in Ocean City for the 4th. I'll be staying at the Spinnaker Motel, at 18th and Baltimore. I'm going to drive across the Bay Bridge on Saturday the 4th and probably leave my car at the Kent Island Park-and-Ride (I might drive in a bit further, still pondering that) and ride from there. I'm going to try the route on the Bike Washington Web site.

I might modify it some, though. It goes through Milton, DE and then heads slightly south to Rehoboth, and then goes down the coastline the rest of the way. I'm wondering if that might be too windy, and too much insane traffic in the resort areas. I might try to stay inland longer, and sort of diagonal my way down from Bridgeville or so. On the other hand, I'm sure the scenery will be prettier along the coast.

Check-in at the motel is 3:00, so I'll try to time it to arrive close to that. It's a small efficiency-type room, with a fridge, microwave, and I guess some kitchen stuff. It has a balcony, two double beds and a sleeper sofa, so if you guys (or anyone else) ride into OC for the fireworks, and don't want to ride back up to Fenwick Island in the dark, you're welcome to stay. I plan to mostly laze around Sunday, spend Sunday night there, and then head back Monday morning.

Yay! How long are you staying? (never mind... I see it now)

So, can I talk you and Bob into a Sunday (century) ride to Chincoteague Island National Park?

BTW, I recently bought a mobile email/texting device. So, even though I'm still resisting the cell phone, I'm reachable while on the move.

As much as I love riding, I think sunday will be bike-lite for me. I'll ride down from Dewey stopping at every Dumsers on the way. If the day is nice, I might rent a Hobie Cat (sailboat) and go sailing in the bay. Oh yeah, then there's beer too.

So you md guys seem to know whats goin on in md,

I want to start to get into some races and I noticed this one,

I know what a crit event is, but as far as the different races/classes im lost. Im assuming i cant ride in the senior class races being that I am 21. and the only mens race is a novice cat4 race. Does that mean I have to be a cat4 rider to enter? or just cat4 as far as us cycling goes. Im mostly in it for fun but I am going to give it my all and see how things go.

and help/advice/maybe another upcoming race that I can race in is appreciated.

You are not eligible to be in any race other than the CAT 5, since you don't have 10 mass start races in your race resume.

And, FYI, the older Juniors class is 15-18 years of age, so you are not considered a junior.

Senior because it's not Junior (under or equal to 18 years of age).

Men's CAT 5s are beginners as well as women CAT 4s. There are no Women's CAT 5. There's not enough women in the sport to warrant the extra CATegory.

Men CAT 4s are "Novice" as is Women CAT 3.

Junior is an age classification not a CATegory. Someone can be a Junior -and- a CAT 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1 depending on their talent, training, and years racing.

well i just registered, I have a usa cycling account and account number which i was able to use to sign up on bikereg and pay the fee. Is the one day license a common practice or should i make sure they are offering it there?

There's a fourth one who is saying that she is riding out from Easton--Esther from Team BBC. She's planning on riding to OCMD on Friday and leaving on Sunday.

So, four separate rides converging on OCMD by Saturday.

Saw some bikers this morning on the commute. One of them- was Barry! What a nice surprise.
He swung around to my side of the road, we chatted about his crappy job prospects and a possibility that he may have to leave town in search of better options.

He decided to ride up to Owings Mills with me and we had an easy side by side ride up to my work.
Gotta be some way of getting Barry a state salary. He single-handedly does more than most of the other non-profits combined.

Yeah, pretty much. I'd need about a 6-hour head start on Isaias to do the ride from Essex :), and anyway I live much closer to the Bay Bridge.

The older I get the more conservative this state feels. Maryland has to be one of the most conservative blue states there is. I was just reading BBC forum and got so pissed off with the mentality of some cyclists. The whole NIMBY thing boils my blood. I was going to post but Janet yelled at everybody:rolleyes:

I think the weird thing about Maryland is that our "righties" are not that many percentage-wise, but a lot of them are waaaaay righty. :)

I haven't read the BBC forum in a while, I'll have to go check out the latest rants.

I found a couple here in howard county but their times dont mesh well with my schedule
