You can easily pull off the cantis and put some long reach side/center pulls on your Raleigh. Find a pair of DiaCompe 750's from an old frame or new. Put on some Kool Stop pads and a Rat Fink sticker on the frame and you'd be kickin' it old skool style. :thumb:
BTW I wear my Showers Pass jacket quite often. They have some really expensive light weight models, but the century jacket is about $110. I do sweat in it when it's warmer out, but it its certainly the best ventilated jacket I've ever owned. Your jacket cost $100! I thought those were going for $300. Does your use eVent material? |

A lot of the fixie kids dremel the bosses off, but that seems like you're just screwing up the bike for some future owner. Has anyone done Tour Dem Parks in Baltimore? My wife asked me if we could ride it this year, maybe taking the boy in the trailer. Their website has next to no information about the routes. I'm trying to figure out if any of them are "trailer friendly", and by that I mean not on roads, but paths that can accommodate a trailer without giving the kid shaken baby syndrome.

Been doing it for years - trailer, trail-a-bike and now the 7 1/2 year old is on a tandem. They change the route frequently but we've never had a problem. We do the 22 mile route (or whatever the 20ish mile route is). Next month is another city ride - Tour dem Parks.

Maybe I'll do tour dem parks, gotta put my hands on a tagalong bike so I can pull the boy and he can pull sis (trailer gets cramped with brother and sis in there). Sis has not been to happy in the trailer for more than a few miles nothing nyquill can't fix, joking.
Pretty eventful ride home While in the ghetto, apparently a school must have let out or something, I had a kid throw a piece of paper at me and miss and a block later some kid said something along ther lines of "stupid ass helmet", Why do these kids think this is ok? When I was growing up and even now I would never do this. Done ranting. I often get comments on my helmet light -- all of them on the order of how cool it is that I have a camera up there. Riding home from work today, I hit this one stretch on which I often sort of zone out for a minute or two -- it's a nice 1%-2% downhill, huge clean shoulder, no cross-streets to worry about. So there I am, in semi-la-la land, when all of a sudden I hear a HUGE dog barking seemingly right next to my ear! There was a Doberman or some such dog in the backseat of a passing SUV, his head hanging out of the partially rolled-down window, and I guess he took exception to my eye-blistering neon yellow-green vest or something. I nearly jumped out of my skin! |
Barry, the bike lane at the harbor is suppose to be for pedestrians and bikes only right? Once again there was a vehicle parked in it, blocking both lanes completely (Dunbar Armored car)

I have a tagalong that you're welcome to use. Many miles on that with my older boys but Rowan is not big enough, so he'll be in the trailer. If we meet up at Tour Dem Parks you can use it. Last year I just drove to Carroll Park and parked as opposed to riding to start. |

Just to note we have been reworking the routes for Tour dem Parks though the 12 mile route is the same for all years.
12 miles is all trail/closed roads so fine for trailers and tag-a-longs, there will be 4 optional miles for this as well. 25 miles is sorting going in reverse the year, Carroll, Druid Hill, Herring Run, Paterson Park, Federal Hill 40 miles is going out Gwynns Falls, Gwynn Oak (new this year), Hanlon (new this year) and joins the 25 mile ride in Druid Hill. 64 miles is the 40 mile route plus a run out to BWI trail and back. |

http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?EventID=7370 Then, if I can swing spending time with Mom Saturday after the race, Sunday I'm planning on joining DC RAND for this ride: SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2009 "MIRACLE AT MOUNT HOPE," starting from Catoctin High School, Thurmont, Maryland. **MEETING TIME 7:45 a.m.** The first quarter of the ride is very hilly, beginning with the long climb up MD77 and becoming more interesting with each passing mile, as we climb about 2500 feet in the first 25 miles to Mount Hope, Pa. The scenery is fabulous and the descents are thrilling. After the first rest stop in Fairfield, the terrain moderates quite a bit on the way to lunch at Mamma's in Biglerville. We'll visit the reputedly haunted Sachs Covered Bridge (circa 1815) during this stretch. See http://www.nycivilwar.us/sachs.html. After lunch we'll head for the hills again and ride through some of the beautiful orchard country of northwestern Adams County (yes, we really do love this part of the world, even though we're probably a week too late for the apple blossoms). Other points of interest include the Eisenhower Bridge (circa 1886), the Land of Little Horses, and the Eylers Valley Chapel. 100 miles, with many shorter options. You can even omit the steepest climb of the day (Iron Springs Rd) and substitute it with the kinder and gentler Jacks Mountain Rd...but then you'll miss Mount Hope! In about 19 miles, take 3rd Thurmont exit (MD550/Sabillasville). Turn left on MD550 (restrooms at Sheetz). In about 0.2 mi., turn right into high school parking lot. |
NR, you actually tempted me into trying that race even though I'm not in any physical condition to do so. Then I mapped it out, saw a relatively decent climb across the finish and decided against it. Good luck!

I'll ride saturday am, 530ish to 8ish, same old story wife has school. Might go out saturday night if I can find sitter, see Wolverine and go to Texas Roadhouse (been with wife for 10 years now). Sunday AM ride early. Sunday evening go hiking with the kids while the wife rides.
Next week I'm riding to-from work thurs and friday, too bad theres no bike to work get togethers at 6AM, hope I get a t-shirt I signed up. |
Josh, did you see the after bike to work day event I posted? I should be able to score some t-shirts after the B2W, I'll keep you all posted on that.
Harry, I'm not sure I'm going to go, I still sort of freak out on slippery roads and the thunder showers has me concerned. |

The wife would kill me if I went........or maybe I can let her know I got a flat tire multiple times and sneak in, mmmmm, gotta think this through. Didn't ride this morning,the sleep bug bit me. I am going to load up the kids and the trailer and head to loch raven around 11ish, see how the baby does. |
