Hey strangers. Been awhile again since I posted. I had a false start back in the spring, but I'm finally back riding consistently. I managed to work riding into my daily life to the point that I pretty much have 4 guaranteed days a week where riding doesn't even cut into my busy life. Had a 25 mile ride today that turned into 40. I know its not amazing but its a good start.

Anyhow crossposting here. I posted this in the winter riding subforum, but then realized someone here might want these, in which case I wouldn't need to waste time shipping them

Checking in from MoCo. I'm very close to Lake Needwood and Lake Frank area.

I'm also in MoCo. I'm just starting out so only been doing stuff near my house, looking forward to trying the capital crescent trail again (did it on my trike a few years ago) and also some other local trails.

Wife just learn how to ride yesterday for the first time. Today we did the trail that along side of the MD-200 toll road. We started from Norbeck Entrence and got right before Georgia AVE (on the ramp). Then rode back. My wife crash 1 time because she did not know how to react to a walker with ear plugs that was walking to us. Her front tire went off the pavement into the grunt (grass/dirt). Oh well she still learning.

I need to figure out why my seat moved down and side to side on my Fuji Traverse 1.9. This is the second time I rode it and only had it for a few days.

Newbie Rider from Gaithersburg, MD. Normal routes are Bethesda to National Harbor via CCT & Mt Vernon Trail and Beach Dr from Kensington to National Zoo. I started doing some local group rides on the weekends and hoping to do a lot more in the future.

Welcome, ehdeeboi. This forum isn't as active as it used to be due to Facebook and Strava, but some of us are still lurking.

Thanks noracer. Yeah it appears to be that way. Most of the cycling events around here are on FB or meetup. I still find forums like these very beneficial though and normally visit at least once a day. I didn't realize how big the biking community here in the DMV until I really got into road cycling. See you on the trail/road and keep safe.

Just search for their name, but the caveat is they may go by an alias. I'm in there by my real name, as many are.

My real name is Isaias O'Daniell.

Found you and followed. Don't know how to invite without an email. Not sure how to message or anything either. Still pretty new to strava.

I followed you back.

You can't actually message, but you can add a comment to a ride. You can start a thread of conversation in that manner.

There's also a way to invite others to use Strava, but I've never done that. I'm sure it's probably associated with the search function page.

Try Rockville Wootton Ride. They have a group ride every Saturday mostly around Rockville-Poolesville-Clarksburg. I've ridden with them a few times and I've enjoyed every ride so far. They normally split into 3 groups (B,CC and not sure but I believe it's AA for the fastest group). The ride starts/ends in Wootton HS.

greaterbrown 03-21-17 03:51 PM

Heeathersh, learning more and riding more puts you WAYYYYYY ahead of all those shlumps who never get off the couch.

and...
one of the best things about bikes, is you can have fun on them no matter how much you weigh or how much you know.
I ride through Towson often on my way to/from work in Timonium.
See ya out there. -Bob

yay for people near me! To ride to work I take Dulaney Valley- to me it's scary with the on/off ramps. Dulaney makes me pedal fast b/c im afraid and then poof- no energy. Im trying to find a good balance in my life ..

There's a new annual charity ride in Maryland, in May.

North Frederick county - "how many miles can you ride in 3 hours", and there's a 6-hour option, and a 12-hour option as well.

Anyone going?

derath 04-16-17 08:03 PM

finally got out on my first ride of 2017. I've been tied up the last couple of months in the yard. We had about 11 trees taken down. I had the budget to take them down but not haul everything away. So every free moment i have I've been playing lumberjack (chainsawing, splitting, stacking, etc). It's not cycling but it has been really good exercise.

I've lost about 20 pounds so far since January. Definitely could tell the difference on the ride, even after spending 6 hours saturday in the yard. Very sore tonight though.

OK folks it is almost time for Monument to Monument. I love this ride, fun to watch many cyclists leaving the city in mass.

derath, I hear ya on the yardwork. My yard is getting bigger or I am getting slower.

Damn man, that ride looks fun. Timing sucks for me. Maybe next year.

Laurel & surrounds

I started a job in Laurel and have been driving up from DC, but hope to be able to commute by bike every once in a while now that the weather's nicer... and going from 10 miles to 25 each way was too big a jump to try.

I'm in touch with a few other cyclists through the WABA / BikeArlington forum, but if there's anyone lurking here separately, I'd love to get some recommendations on good roads around here.
