ARGGGHH! I'm having low-res-pixilation-car sickness! ;) j/k

But, that is the reason I haven't remounted my video camera. On the handlebars, it's just too shakey.

Hey! You aren't suppose to pass someone on the bike lane, let alone leave the bike lane for the road! Isn't that illegal?! ;) ;) ;)

balto charlie 02-11-08 10:46 AM

Hey folks: Shame none of us were able to hook up on the B&A. We should all buy the BF.net shirts to identify us. Although pink should be more easily recognized. I also wanted to point out a side trail to Kinder Farm Park on East West blvd/rd/street. Take a side bike path, west of the B&A trail, on the south side of E/W blvd overpass. Turn left into the park and ride the trail around the park. It's a nice change of pace, well change of scenery (as the pace is the same).
Barry: mount the camera on your helmet. It's still going to bounce around just not as much.

The Human Car 02-11-08 10:54 AM

LOL, Ya the camera mount is horrible on bumpy roads but not too bad on smother roads. I was struggling for an appropriate warning for the video so thanks for the suggestions. ;) :)

If you want to criticize my lane positioning I have another video where I demonstrate the advanced riding style known as AP[1]. You'll have a field day with my illegal lane positions. ;)

Most of these were done at a fairly high res and mounted between the headset and fork:

Unfortunately, the mount I used at that time is broken.

Ahhh.... yeah... that was good. I see what you're saying. NOT! Did you forget something? :p

For a helmet mount I need a different camera. :(

If my stress was to make really good videos then this would be my setup:

For now I can edit the video to get something more palatable if I really wanted to but for now I am just playing with the idea and concepts for videos but my stress is to take stills of family, friends and landscapes. Stuff like this:

On impulse, I took that side trail detour once a few years back -- I wasn't expecting Kinder Farm Park to be as big as it is. I really had to pay attention, I almost got lost on some of those intersecting trails.

One year when a bunch of us "virtual" acquaintances were attempting to meet up at the Seagull Century, we agreed to sport orange construction tape somewhere on our persons. I made a nice big bow and tied it to my helmet -- it worked very well. :)

Oh, NoRacer, no apologies necessary, especially when it's still winter and everyone's bundled up to the eyeballs. I am soooo ready for spring!!!

I think it's the roads. In your video "It's in the mid-30s F" you hit a bit of rough pavement near the end and the image goes wacky a lot like mine. Balto City has a lot of rough roads. I took a few samples on newly paved roads and the videos are lot better off the bike.

It looks like we are now both lost in this sub topic.

I dunno. I just got these great, overpriced, gloves that finally keep my hands nice and warm. I should get some use out of them.

Who am I kidding, SPRING GET YER A** OVER HERE!

I thought you had another video to post. I guess I misunderstood.

What camera are you using, Barry? I'm using an Oregon Scientific with a 2 GB card. I can't take stills with it. It only does video.

My other problem, especially in the cold, is battery life. I have to keep them warm or the camera will stop working.

donhaller 02-11-08 12:58 PM

Well, I see that some of you braved the winds yesterday. If I had more "cajolies" I would have been out there bravin' the wind. I guess I'll just have to make it up this week. No way I'm going out tonight, but will just have to get on the trainer. Maybe see you guys out on the trail Saturday.

calhoun1 02-11-08 04:06 PM

I will be out Saturday morning. Probably B&A trail from Rusty Bridge (East West) downtown for a bagel and then back up through Crownsville with the Severna Park group. A nice easy ride to get ready for Tradezone on Sunday.

The downhill decent on Falls Rd is newly paved (2:16) and I got less camera jiggles on that though the camera had a hard time finding something to focus on in the dark. Have a blast critiquing my lane position.

The pic of my camera is earlier in the thread but basically a standard digital camera.

Josh, what did you have in mind for a ride?

I have to take it easy Saturday, so I'm looking to do some low stress miles.

i was hoping to mountain bike but I don't think i'll have any takers, A nice road ride sounds good, how many miles and what is "taking it easy" to you?, I don't know many good road routes other than my 8 mile and 12 mile loops I take around dundalk, what route do you have in mind. I'd hope to get an early start 7am-8am, so that when done I still have some hours left in the day.

I commuted to work today as usual, it was the coldest yet 13 degrees/ -2 windchill, cold weather isn't so bad. after the first mile. Of course everyone at work thinks I'm a looney.

I was kidding with you before, Barry, hence the 3 "winkies". I would have done exactly the same pass if I came upon a slower rider.

I'm using the weather as an excuse to be off of the bike Monday & Tuesday, then start "opening up the legs" on Wednesday thru Friday, easy Saturday with maybe a few quick accelerations at the end of that ride, then race on Sunday.

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-50 miles, including my ride to and from Essex at between 15-17 mph. Tell me where you'd like to meet and I can come up with a route from there. But, if you decide you'd like to wait, then just say so, because I actually prefer to go a little later in the day--like between 10 and 11AM.

So nice to see all this local forum action in February.
Y'all got me thinking about a ride on the B/A trail for my monday ride, but I was up for something longer.
I went for a "3 city century"

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/104156
I took an existing route posted by a rider in DC and did lots of mods to bring it up to Baltimore.
It was pretty nice coming into Annapolis from the south!
This was a really nice route. I recommend it.

I had one diversion from a road closed from downed power lines. Nicely, the BG&E guys that stopped me pulled out their ADC map and helped me with a detour. Pretty cool.

105.28 total miles 14.8 ave. mph. I guess I was pushing it. :)
A good monday. -GB

Nice ride, GB! Using your route, I could... like... ride to Trade Zone for the race on Sunday! ;)

The Human Car 02-12-08 11:13 AM

GreaterB I love your route! (Though I would have cut through Greenbelt Park) If you don't mind I posted it on the Baltimore Spokes route map. Oh, Lisa from Light St Cycles is off on Mondays and may be interested in doing a ride sometime.

NoRacer, I know you were kidding and so was I. If you can't joke around with your friends who can you joke around with?

calhoun1 02-12-08 03:22 PM

So is riding this afternoon? :p

Not me--another planned day off of the bike. Legs are feeling great. Need to bust them open in another day or so.
