GRRRR! I overslept.
So I had insomnia Fri night through Sat morning then slept from noon to 8pm sat then tried to nap from 2am to 7am Sun. so I could drive 2 hours to the race and sign in by 11am. But I didn't get to sleep untill 5am and thus slept through the alarm and woke up at 9am but being there is a ferry crossing to be made on the hour I was screwed. So I says "F it." and went back to sleep.
Oh well I can miss one race in the series, I was hoping to make it the one in July that happens the day after a double century, but what can ya do?

Then I guess that's your body's way of saying it didn't want to be racing to begin with! Because you know full well if you really wanted to be at that race, you would have been to bed on time and up on time.

No, I have sleeping problems in general. It is like I'm on a 25 or 26 hour clock so every day my body wants to sleep in an extra half hour and stay up another hour despite the fact that I'm getting less and less sleep because I'm still forced to get up at the same time for work. The only way I can go to bed earlier in the evening is to stay up a full 35-40 hours, I'm like a freewheel, I can only rotate my schedule one way. Example(not my real schedule): say I went to bed at 11pm monday woke up at 6am tues and I want to start going to bed by 9pm. I would have to stay up all tues[16 hours], tues night[+8 =24 hours] and of course weds day[+15= 39 hours @9pm]
and pass out at 8-9pm Weds. AND I have to be carfull not to go to sleep too early so I don't get to much sleep, or I will be so rested that I won't be able to keep my early bedtime the next day.
When I was younger, once asleep nothing would wake me, I mean nothing, untill I had enough sleep. I would sleep through super loud alarms, shaking, all sorts of stuff, when someone did manage to roust me I would actually be sleep walking and remember none of it the next day.
Now I sleep fairly well but can be raised a bit more easily. However I now get crazy insomnia (closest term I can come up with). I can't get my self to go to bed and have mass energy but still show signs of sleep deprivation[bad decisions, poor cordination, vision affected, basic Sleep D. stuff], because I have to force myself out of bed to go to work after only 4-6 hours of sleep and I just don't go bed one day of my weekend sometimes(I don't ever drive when I do that) just so I can get so blasted tired that I can't stay awake for anything and reset my internal bedtime to somthing resonable.

Besides that, exercise is an endorphin. No matter how sleep deprived I am, I can still get on my bike and be alert for the ride. I might be dead tired after, but during the ride, it feels like I've gotten all the sleep I need.

Maybe it was a good thing that you overslept. I know that I have done races when I would have been better off to have just stayed in bed.

I know the whole world doesen't sleep normally. However, my problem isn't psychological, it is genetic. My Mom has the same problem and has actually been diagnosed, I can't remember what she said it was, but they[doctors] said it is often passed down (depending on how the dice through of genes comes up, of course) and unless I want to take meds I'm cursed for all eternity.
The thing is, I miss sleep for nothing. It would be quite different if I was doing something important at night but I'm not, I just sit here doing this or mucking about in the kitchen to pass the time.

Oh a quick story so at my last job, a factory/mill outdoor place, I decided to sleep in my car rather than commute one fine day/night because of some overtime I was getting. I woke up near quiting time the next day(I was expecting a certain co-worker to wake me), and the foreman was like "How the hell did you sleep through all that? We were loading trucks right next to your car, all day.". I didn't get in any trouble, but everyone was quite amazed.
