From RR to (adding) MTB
Junior has done one MTB race - collegiate Cat B. He really likes it. I'm an equipment/weight weenie kind of guy and looking for some quick prep for a possible collegiate nationals on October. Both of us are very experienced with the RR thing, but MTB is new turf - so to speak.
The scope is MTB racing collegiate now and USAC later, not downhill and not cycle cross.
-Where do you find skills classes for MTB type race courses.
-Tubular rims - where do I get them, who makes great ones?
-Tires - we use FMB on road, and would like to on the MTB
-Do through axles work on QR / dropout bikes? And/or if the bike has dropouts can we buy QR and convert later?
-Shoes - do you really need to dismount that much? I see some with toe studs and wonder if that is more CX related.
-Good books?
