WV Mountain Bike Point Series 2006
Here's the line up of WV Mountain Bike Association Point Series Races for 2006 - while I may not have the exact names of the races, the dates & locations are solid... you'll be able to get race details, contact, etc. on line at www.wvmba.com or www.iplayoutside.com in a week or so....
Anyway, this is a 13 race series - you have to do 5 races to qualify, and final ranking will be based upon the rider's best 6 scores plus the score from the final, championship race.
April 23 - Challenge at Mountwood, Mountwwod Park, Waverly WV
April 30 - Big Bear, Hazelton, WV (this is the same venue as Granny Gear's 24 Hours at Big Bear June 11)
May 7 - Henry Clay 40K,Cooper's Rock Sate Park, WV
May 14 - Tour of Tomilson, Tomilson State Park, WV
May 21 - Tour de Lake, Charles Fork Park, Spenser, WV
May 28 - Race the Trace, Little Creek Park, South Charleston, WV
June 17 & 18 - Appalachian Classic, Grantsville, WV
July 30 - Little Beaver State Park, Beaver, WV
Aug 6 - Lake Hope, near Athens, OH
Aug 27 - New River Bike Fest, Ace Adventure Center, Oak Hill, WV
Sept 10 - Free Wheeling, Winterplace Resort, Flattop WV
Sept 24 - Black Bear, Kanawha State Forest, Charleston WV
Oct 1 - Dirt Derby, Barboursville Park, Barboursville, WV
There are a couple of other WVMBA sanctioned races, too:
June 4 - Revenge of the Rattlesnake, Davis, WV
Aug 12 - Wild 100 BackCountry, Slatyfork, WV
Sept 3 - Shenandoah Mtn 100, VA?
Sept 16 - Cheat Mtn 100K - Cheat Mtn, WV
Oct 7 - Tour de Lilly, Davis, WV (more of a ride than a race)
Most of the Point Series races have entry fees of $25 - $30 for WVMBA members ($25/year) - add $5 for non-members. Most also have free post-race meals, lots of prizes, and racer T-shirts. These races have experienced race promoter/directors, so come out and enjoy the WV trails!

That sucks. I was wanting to see what that course would be like in somewhat warm / dry conditions. Thanks for the information though. Now I need to look for another race for that weekend. Possibly a road race somewhere.

3 Down, 10 to go in the WV Mountain Bike Association’s Point Series
So far, 3 of the WVMBA Point Series’ 13 races have been recorded.... a rider must complete 5 races to qualify, and thier placement will be determined by adding thier best 6 scores to their score at the Championship race in October - so there’s still plenty of time to join the point race!
The completed races - Challenge at Mountwood, Big Bear Lake Classic, and the Henry Clay 30K at Cooper’s Rock - have resulted in few clear favorites - Junior Expert 18 & under rider Roland Sink has been the only rider to win all three races! Cassie Smith, Women’s Pro/Expert, Gerry Pflug, Men’s Vet Expert, Scott Root, Men’s Master Expert, Susan Wren, Women’s Sport, Pete Arner, Men’s Master Sport, and Audrey Kennedy, Women’s Vet Sport, are racers posting wins at 2 out of 3 races.
Upcoming races in May are the Hancock 100 at Tomilson State Park on May 14th, the Tour de Lake at Spencer’s Charles Fork Lake Park on May 21st, and Race the Trace at Little Creek Park in South Charleston on May 28th. Check the rest of the schedule at www.WVMBA.com!
