I'm going to whoop somebody this year
Just warning you guys before the snow melts.
Got a new bike and I've been logging up the hours on the trainer... now the guy who is in charge of the local races says he's sick of it and wants to quit because nobody helps. Guess I'd better volunteer since I'm actually in the club this year. I've only raced twice before, and was pretty embarassed... things'll be different this year. :irritated

well i just wanted to get on on the commenting about training and whipping @ss:
my serious training starts this week! i've been ramping up since mid-January... tonight is 20km of running plus weight training, this weekend 2 huge ski tours with lots of vertical! i have a new training plan...
but i'm not really training for cycling yet (100-150km/week commuting + maybe 1 rec ride a week - we've got a lot of snow)... in 3 1/2 weeks i have a ski tour race with 1950 meters (6400ft) vertical ascent and extreme descent (i did it last year too although the pros whipped my @ss) and then a few adventure races... first one mid-April
it will be good x-training for the summer MTB racing and touring

ok guys, had to report back...
my training got sidelined by a stupid flu sickness that just wouldn't go away --- alomst 7 weeks in total in March and early April - uh! iritating!
but i am back and i am strong! the last 2 weeks i had started again gradually and then last weekend was 4 days of hard training in northern Italy - i rode 6000 meters vertical (19,800ft) in 4 days... obviously with lots of trails for the descents too!
today is rest and tomorrow i ride with the group again and will hopefully see an improvement -- i lost a sprint last week to my buddy who last year never beat me in a sprint but has been training hard for 2 months. i hope to not repeat that tomorrow, and that much of it was due to my having been o long sick... Thursday is sprint training with my race buddy.
first big race is in 1 1/2 weeks - Sat May 3rd - 105km and 3550meters vertical in Lake Garda Italy... i rode many of the trails last weekend.
but man is it a long race - i think it will take me 6 1/2 to 7 hours to finish so i need to think a lot about eating and nutrition and all.
tonight will be the first leg-shaving of the year... that signifies the official beginning of the race season for me!

Ok guys... 6 days until the big race. I'm within 40 seconds of the fastest time last year. I'm nervous already...

Aww yeah, smoked them fools.
Got second in my class. The only guy that beat me is my buddy that has been in like 100 sport races over the last 10 years, works at a bike shop, has been to a mtb racing school in Durango, and got handed a free brand new Enduro Pro, so I'm not going to feel too bad, he shouldn't have been in the beginner class. That was only my fourth race.
