Looks like fun. I'm going to enter a couple of the races this year, just have to decide which ones.

I don't suppose they run DH races at any of the venues in conjunction with those do they?

Wow - some REALLY great venues per usual. Big Bear and the Wild 100 are just fantastic!

The Mountwood Challenge has a DH on the Saturday before. Most of these venues simply don't have downhills long enough, which is something I've never quite understood, because they certainly have long UPhills!!

But, I think that Snowshoe Mountain may have plans for a DH series (snowshoemtn.com)

The WV Mountain Bike Association has a deal with DirtRag, and we have to get things set on a deadline to get the advert deal! Plus, there are a lot of venues to choose from - it kind of forces serious promoters to get their act together. There will undoubtably be additional sanctioned events, just not point series races (16 is enough!!)

Good luck to "the kid" this year, hope he kicks some butt. What class will he be racing this year? I may have to come to one or two of them to at least say hi since I won't be racing any of them. I don't even have a bike to race if I did decide to.

His new frame came in just in time for x-mas - XL C'dale Taurine. Now he just has to put it together... He'll be racing Jr Ex this year, and I'm just hoping it won't be HIM I'll be waiting around the finish line for!

Good luck to him! Junior X is tough. Make sure he gets the miles in... those races are a lot longer.

Do you know what his racing schedule will be? Travel plans? Going to nationals?

right now, we're thinking Greenbrier AMBC, WVMBA schedule, NMBS in Waltham NY & VT - unless he can hitch rides for other east coast races...

Very cool. I'm only going to be back east for the month of July, but I will be at both Mt. Snow and Waltham. I've heard the latter is a great venue! Never raced there myself.

Any road racing (I know, evil words) in the future for him you think? Junior X is difficult to compete in without serious road miles.

Ha totally understandable.

If there are any practice crits or small road races around, he should give them a try. Especially since he already spends some time on the road. Think of it as supplementing his mountain biking

Shoot, I missed this. Sorry about that. Any road race that I am going to if I don't have a full load he is more than welcome to go with me. All I ask is that you sign the race waiver before hand. I've got the Element now so I will be able to take three people with me to each race.

I live in Morgantown and wanted to start racing this year. I was thinking sport class are there any qualifications or pre-requisites I should be aware of? Most of the Pathfinder guys tell me to just show up and race but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks!

There are no qualifications or pre-rerequisites. You can race in what ever class you want, just remember after you do a sport class race it would be frowned upon if you would decide you aren't ready so you do your next race in beginner. Same goes if you try expert and decide you aren't ready.

Basicly, make sure that you are ready for the longer course and have fun!
