It varies widely by region and venue. Our own local non-NORBA summer series uses 8- to 9-mile loops; masters and recreational-class younger guys do one lap and the faster young guys do two.

Beginner= 7-9 mile 1 lap loop
Sport= Same lap but usually 2x, 15-20miles
Expert/P/S/E= same lap usually with some technical sections added sometimes. 20 or more miles usually
Thats how its pretty much setup here.

Depends on category, age, and venue. Better to go by time.
Beginnner: around an hour
Sport: around 1.5 hrs
expert: around 2 hrs
semi-pro: around 2.5 hrs
Of course there are exceptions, but that's what you can expect most of the time.
