Supposedly TBB is adding an event for the pros this upcoming season, 4X DH. It is fun to watch and it gives everyone a fighting chance not just the former bmx riders since it will not be groomed flat course.
From TBB
"Team Big Bear will bring back one of the Pro downhillers favorite formats; 4 up downhill racing.
Racers will qualify in a one run format, and then be divided into 4 racer brackets, just like mountain cross. Two racers from each bracket will advance to the next round. The number of brackets will be determined by the number of racers.
National Series points will be based on a combination of a racers bracketed finish and his/her qualifying time.
Both the Pro racers and Semi Pro racers will compete in separate categories in this format. Experts, sports and beginners will race the traditional downhill format."

Sounds like a great format. Should also allow for more people to race, and have more than just two shots. I mean, you pay all that money, get a qualifying time and a race time. If you make one bad move you're out of the money. However, if you're now racing 3 others, you have a better chance of recovery. Plus, when you advance, you have the opportunity to race upwards of 4 times. (assuming quarters, semis and mains).
This may change training regimines to more endurance oriented.
I think this is a great move!
