Want to start Racing...

I was looking on the NORBA site, I want to do Mtb Racing, and found that there is a Jr. class, as I am 16. It seems like all I need is to be a member, have an entry level bike which I have, and they have applications you can print off, and all you have to do is put the event down, and send it in and as long as you meet all requirements your good...but first I can't find a local race, I live in Western Washington, and I thought there was one in capitol forest, but I don't know if they closed that down or what.

Don't start off with norba, look for a local series to cut your teeth in

Definatley.

Some local series are NORBA races though, and you are in luck. A day NORBA license is $5, but for juniors an annual is only $25 in 2004 so if your local series is NORBA sanctioned (most are for insurance purposes) go ahead and spring for the annual. Make sure first. I'm sure Washington has a real active club, do a web search and find their web site and schedule. Ask at a bike shop who to talk to. Juniors have it made, most clubs have incentives for junior racers like special sponsorhips for active racers, and there is almost always somebody who will help them by helping with travel, coaching, etc. Good luck...

I've been freeriding around the seattle area for a while now and I was thinking about getting into 4x. I was wondering if there is any kind of 4x scene around the area?

Most of those are XC events. And unless the Methow Valley Sport Trails Association has had a change of heart, you'll NEVER find a gravity race there. They don't think gravity racers fit the "family-friendly" image they want to portray .

Most of what's happening in the PNW gets posted faithfully on Ridemonkey.com in the PNW forum. Check there frequently and/or post a question. Lots of Seattle-area gravity racers on that forum.

Not family friendly? I must admit, though my kids do XC, when I'm at a NORBA event, it's the gravity guys you can always bum a smoke from.......

Yeah, dig that. MVSTA I think is mostly a bunch of uptight XC skiers who would rather not have to deal with mountain bikers at all.
