First race (Maybe?)

My goal for this summer is/was to compete in a MTB race but up until now I have not been able to attend a race. The only problem is that the race is a 6 hour enduro. I know that I am in good enough shape to compete (also it's 3 days after I get back from MTBing and hiking in the San Juans) and I also have someone who could be my teammate. I just don't know if this is a good first race. If it helps, it's the Race for Relief at John Bryan sp (and yes I do know about the fast lap series and plan to compete in that for sure, but I want head to head racing, and yes I also know how dumb sounding that is ). Also any suggestions for other Miami Valley races are welcom (and yes I have checked the MVMBA forum). Thanks for any imput, positive or negitive.

Edit: I would just like to say sorry if anything is unclear as it was late and I was tired when I wrote the above text.

Do a 6hr road ride on your mtb. If you don't have issues then you can be competitive at the event.

Oh, yeah, I've ridden my MTB on dirt for that long (stopped every hour or so for 5ish mins), but why road? I've done century on a road bike with 3 or so between breaks. Also, its a team race, so it would be only 3 hours of actual riding.
