New Guy to racing
Hey people,
I have had my bike for about a year now and i want to start getting in shape and possibly racing. I'm a 20 yr old college student, and im not in the best of shape ( about 5, 9 195 lbs). how much should i ride on road and trail everyday ( i dont really have acess to singletrack riding everyday)? what other kinds of things can i do to get the extra weight off ( my body not my bike )? also what kinda excercises can i do in the weight room for like leg strength?
you guys rock!
thanks alot

Sorry, I don't know how much road riding or weight training to do, but since you'll be entering the novice division I don't think that you'd have to work out by doing much more than trail riding to start. I just finished my first year of racing and it is a blast, but if you are in the novice senior class, they really don't do much more than ride on the trails as much as they can from what I've gathered. When I talked to other guys that race in sport and expert however, they start to do more road riding. Many of the experts that I've talked to say that they did probably at least 60% of their training on the road.
As for the shedding of extra poundage, I can't really help you there, at a super skinny 6'2" and 140lbs I have the opposite problem.
