#37 year old ex-Bmx-er losing his mind

I am considering racing DH mountain bike racing after a 15 year hiatus from being a NJ state bmx champ. Whattype of Mountain biking do you consider the most related to BMX. I am really a newbie again. I just can not get it out of my head.!!

I'm a 35 old BMXer. And although I don't race anymore, if you want something closely related to the old BMX days, look into 4 cross. Or Mountain Cross or whatever they want to call it. It's a 4 man gate on a downhill oriented course with berms, jumps, rythm sections...etc. Top two move on, last two go home!

Remember Eric Carter? He's the Nat'l Champ in 4x for the last two years. What other old BMX Pro's race. It'd be easier to say which ones aren't old BMXers. Wade Booth, Mike King, Brian Lopes...etc.

Wow...good start. Bmxers the last 3 years have really proven themselves to be dominent in dh, fr, 4x, slalom, slopestyle and urban comps. Really the list is endless, you have more basic bike control skills then most people who start with mountain biking or come from xc.

Dh racing is a good place to start as it is racing. Gets you close to sponsors and events and other riders, from there with a bmx bike background and a good bike you can move to any other form of racing. Slopestyle (think snowboarding with rails and skill stunts) is where current bmxers are destroying mountain bikers. In general there is no competition for the new breed

I wish I had had a start in bmx, but alas, I ony started biking a couple of years ago

Wade simmons (canadian champ), Timo pritzel, Darren Bearcloth , Paul B, holy don't forget the god Cedric Gracia...the list is endless. I doubt any of the top riders today didn't have some start in bmx at some degree or other.
