Pro mtb riders

Earlier on today I took me and my new bike on a ride. Literally my bike is so hard to control, my bollocks hit the seat few times which gets uncomfortable  No doubt it was so fun going down those hills and when i tried pedalling up the hills its so much harder so I just walk the bike to top again. So like fifth time going down hill I hit rear brakes for control and I skid down and I went flying and broke my left hand was left with scratches and cuts. Didn't feel pain because of adrenaline. I should have wore gloves but anyway do you pro mtb riders got any tips for guy like me? Literally this sport is so fun and willing to learn more as its not just about pedalling the bike. I don't know when to use my gears and changing tire soft or stiff. So I just leave it in middle. Little I know.

in a previous post you asked about DH riding, if this is what you are trying to do, the bike you have is totally out of it's depth, DH riding is a very specialized area of cycling, and you need a bike with lots of suspension travel, F&R and years of practice.

If you are just going down a hill, you need to learn how to brake, using the rear to skid will result in the fail you have, the front is used for the majority of braking, the rear to adjust/control the front.

The bike you have is only an entry level model great for tracks, but as you have experienced, going off road, an it's limits have shown themselves very quickly. Would be looking to walk before running, would suggest a skills day, but this is going to be over any budget you have, going from your previous post, would look at cycle clubs near by, their will be plenty in the Manchester area you can look at, who may be able to help you with your riding.

Alright thanks, and not really taking up the actual DH sport yet, don't have the money and experience. I just like riding the bike offroad and there are couple hills there and when I see others go down the hill they don't fall. Maybe when i save a lot of money and have experience on biking I will take up DH. Right now I ddon't even know when to use gears and stuff. Feel like complete newbie. I thought it would be simple, four years ago I rode a bike on to shops and stuff all it had were breaks no gears and stuff. I don't understand this gears and which one I should be on at what occasion. Its complicated :crash:

Would look on Youtube for MTB riding, there are a lot of good instructional videos, on there, also would be looking at what type for riding you want to do, I mentioned DH, as you mentioned this in an earlier post along with the limited budget you had set. The issue with DH riding and a limited budget is they don't go together, your original budget wouldn't even cover a helmet, then you need body armour, neck brace, gloves, pads etc and many other accessories long before you even start thinking about a bike.

Being realistic, most of the MTB riding you will do in the UK is XC or Enduro, there is DH, but this is a very specialized area, for where you are located, would look at Phillips Park in Bury, slightly further away are Gisburn, Lee & Cragg Quarrys and over in Wales, Llandegla, all of these are good to ride. Phillips Park, Gisburn & Llandegla all have blue (easy/beginner) routes which your bike would cope with, would avoid Lee & Cragg Quarry till you are have some more skills.

Would also not consider riding any of them till you have a helmet & gloves as basic protection.
