It is between the Trek 4900, Giant Rainier, and Gary Fischer Tasajara. I might be leaning towards the Giant but i am always listening to yoiu guys for advice.

I voted Rainier but I'm a Giant fan. Check out the June issue of Mountain Bike Action. There's a review of the Rainier in it.

Three of my friends each have one of the bikes you listed. The one who has been the happiest with its performance was the owner of the Giant Ranier. Plus you get the added benefit of Avid Disc Brakes. I'd go with that one.

(Edit) - You might also want to try to search the bulletin board, as there was a post about the Trek 4900 and Giant Ranier a few days ago. I am sure the Tassajara has been discussed somewhere in one of the forums also. Good luck in buying your new bike!

My fatherinlaw has a tassajara and that is what influenced me buying my fisher big sur. I rode the trek and the fishers(dont have a giant dealer nearby) and the fisher just fit me better and felt better. But you just need to get out and ride all 3.What feels good to me might be totally different for you.Dont buy a bike because we like it.All 3 bikes are spec'd close to the same so just get what feels right and you like/

Ride them (or at the very least sit on them) all, and see what feels most comfortable. I think the Giant is probably the best value for money but only if it feels right.

*Bias alert* I own a Giant.

All great bikes - I own a Giant too, but until 2002 they didn't have a 14" frame, so I bought a Kona because it was really the only one I could find that fit me right. I paid more for the components I would have gotten on a Giant or a Trek, but the way I look at it, even if you pay a couple hundred more for the right components, if the bike doesn't feel right it's pretty much worthless. So if all three feel the same, I'd say go with Giant. Otherwise, go with what your posterior tells you.
