Anybody ride with a weak wrist? (Or use a brace?)

Years (and years) ago, I broke my wrist. I didn't get it fixed for a few years because it never bothered me that much (it was one of the bones that are small and don't do much.) I eventually got put in a cast and let the bone heal.

Anyway, now when I go mountain biking, my wrist always hurts. The bone is healed, it's just a combination of me getting older and having a previously broken wrist. I debating trying to wear my wrist brace when riding, but it's far too bulky. (It's the type that has a metal plate running on the underside of your wrist to keep it from bending too far forward.)

Does anybody here ride with any sort of wrist brace?

EDIT: Literally just googled it, there are lots of "biking" wrist braces. Anybody use any of them?

I've had a few issues in both wrists with repetitive motion (damn desk job..) and a mild, infrequent issue with gout. Lots of fun.

Anyway, I've ridden with a brace. I wouldn't suggest anything crazy at first while you get used to it being there. I do find that a longer brace is much better than a small one, because it distributes the load better. A small brace, to me, feels like it is just constricting at the wrist and it wants to slide down my forearm, away from my hand.

A thumbhole is pretty annoying for grip, but very good for limiting movement and pain.
