I have done some night riding with lights on trails that can be legally ridden.

I love night riding, but don't really feel like the need is there for night vision goggles.

I ride my local state park trails at night a couple of times a month during the warm seasons (this is allowed in Ohio). Good lights used to be really expensive, but now you can outfit yourself with a light and a back-up for around $50. It gives a totally different feel to the trails, and lets you get away from the heat (and crowds).

Get some lights and give it a try!

I think doing anything with night vision goggles would be fun
