$100 bike build

I cobbled this together this weekend I have $80 into it but the brakes still need bled, the bleed kit will cost about $20.

$20 frame 2004/05 Iron horse (branded north face)
$20 deraileur hanger (the one on the framed was stripped)
$20 tubes and cables
$6 BB
$5 seat post
$10 stem spacers

Everything else was parts box. It is an odd build 3x9 but it is what I had sitting around. Deraileurs are Sram x-5, Crank is shimano (Deore?), shifters are old Deore thumb shifters running in friction mode. Mismatched pair of Magura Louise hydra brakes, one rim is an Alex the other Mavic, shocks are RST Gila5 100mm. We shall see how friction works on a 9 speed.

I just now need to determine why I need it. I already have a hardtail that serves the same purpose and is in better shape. I am thinking of getting studded tires and making it a winter bike.

Bleed Kit ? $20 ?

What am I missing here ?

Last time I had to bleed out wet brakes on my Hard Tail It cost me $5.99 for the oil,, still think cooking oil would have been fine....

I did the gravity bleed thing,, needed nothing but patience.. two days worth..

i just built a bleed kit for <$3.00. i'm estimating i'll get at least three brake bleeds from it.

yes, i am cheap (runs in the family, the Royals have their hemophilia, we have this cross to bear ), but i'll be damned if i'll pay 20-30 dollars for a few bucks worth of stuff that can be sold at a reasonable profit by sources other than a bike brake manufacturer.

3oz bottle of J&J baby oil (light weight mineral oil, $1.75) at CVS, small plastic bottle of all-purpose oil with pointy tip and hollow extender hose (Dollar General). emptied it, cut off bottom to fashion a poor-man's funnel, and saving oil for later use on chain ($0). bought veterinarian syringe at local feed store for $.75. and 8" of plastic hose for $.15 at Ace Hardware.

I thought $20 was high it appear the only speciality part is the bolt with the hole in the middle. I will do some searching. An $83 build sounds better than $100. I called 2 lbs to see what they charged both were $35 per brake!
