Syntace x12 explained?

I thought I had this down but I'm now getting questions that are making me look at this again.

Yes..I did a search. Nothing definitive was found.

So Syntace x12 is 142mm endcap to endcap with a thru QR etc. How does this differ from the Shimano 12x142? Is the difference only in the thru QR? By this I mean if I had a hub with 12mm dia axle and it was 142mm from endcap to endcap could I use it regardless of which frame I was putting it on (assuming I had the correct thru QR which is often supplied with the frame)?

Answers appreciated.

Try MTBR.com. You'll probably have more luck there.

Thx for the responses. It's good to know that this is as nebulous as it appears.

Reading through that as a layman, I see no usable difference between that setup and the DT Swiss 12x142 axle and endcap system on my Santa Cruz frame.
