Need Bike buying advice

Hello,

I am new and have been looking at getting a bike. I have small budget of 400-500. Here are the three bikes I have narrowed it down too.

Cannondale Trail 5 29 $450 Craigslist Brand new according to AD. Seller has been hard to reach so this is not a sure thing.

Motobecane Fantom Trail 29 $499 Bikes Direct. I have somebody to help me put it together. I am very mechanically inclined.

Fuji Nevada 1.7 29 $499 Performance Bikes.

Are there any others I should consider? The bike will be for trail riding and some around the neighborhood. Thanks to all for any help.

Those are both good bikes. They are comparably specd but the Fuji is a better buy for two reasons. First, you get the bonus points from Performance. Secondly, you get the bike fitted and complete. BD is fine but there is no money savings in this scenario. If the wheels need to be trued than that is just extra work for you. Go with the complete bike and use the points to get a helmet or shorts.
Performance also has a great return policy. Again, BD is fine but without a big savings there is no compelling reason to buy their bike in this scenario.

And you probably get lifetime warranty tuneups. Which can be a boon to keep it shifting good until you figure out bike maintenance on your own.
