looking for a bikeshop in l.a., ca--
hi there,
i need to buy some gear for my bike (i bought an 04 hardrock sport), and need to know where a reputable bikeshop in l.a. is? anyone got any recommends? thanx! |
Good luck dude, I've had zero luck... generally I order special stuff and get basic stuff from REI... I'm glad to be getting out already! One guy mentioned a place down near Manhattan Beach - Beach City Cycles... otherwise... I mean, the guys at Helen's Cycles over in Marina Del Ray (on Lincoln) seemed nice, but were of little help... then again, I'm always looking for odd parts... though I didn't think a Nitto Technomic was such an odd part, but if you're looking for the normal stuff... reckon they'd be pretty helpful... if you're looking for SRAM parts -don't go to Palms Cycles and I quote "What's a SRAM?"
Oh, there's a Supergo in Santa Monica... |
If you are near Lancaster then I highly recomend "The Block Shop". They have been nothing but great to me.

There's Supergo, which s for buying stuff. For advice and good prices, head a few miles north to Wheelworld. They have some great specials, and the guys there are helpful too. They always seemed more interested in selling me the right gear than just making a sale.

When you say L.A. what area of L.A. are you located? There are a few good shops some ok ones and a lot of shyte ones. WheelWorld in Culver City is good, the one in Woodland Hills is ok (used to be good but most of the good employees left). Cycology in Van Nuys is good, Supergo in Santa Monica is good for discount parts(would not recomend them for service or buying a new bike) and if you want to venture into Simi Valley All-Pro(I think that is the name I will have to check) is a good shop.

If you're heading out towards Ventura, Simi Cycling Center is pretty good for knowledgeable staff, or Micheals Bicycles in Newbury Park. Avoid Newbury Park bike shop, unless you've got an AMEX Platinum.

What part of LA are you considering. Are you considering clothes/parts/accessories? Supergo has a great selection and is pretty well organized. On Apr 28 thru May 1, Supergo in Ventura is advertising "Everything on Sale" for it's anniversary sale. As mentioned by Expatriate, Michaels Bicycles in Newbury Park (on the way to Ventura) has a very knowledgeable staff (but small store).
If you know what you want, check out www.jensonusa.com. They're mail order, but living in So Cal, the stuff arrives the next day by ground and their prices are very good. My second choice would be www.pricepoint.com. |
Cambria Bike is another good online retailer. Even better, take the missus there (to Cambria) for a weekend. You can check out the shop, stay on the beach, and get some excellent Italian at Mustache Pete's. Cambria Pines Lodge is over rated compared to staying on Moonstone, right on the beach, but they throw in a pretty good brekkie.
