any rockhopper owners?
hello, im finaly gonna buy a bike this week after reading endless forums and reviews for awhile.
im thinking i will probably get a 2005 rockhopper for 400, and i wonder if anyone here owns this bike? or used it or can let me know how it is? pretty much all i see here is hardrock this and hardrock that, and even at mtb reviews, almost all the reviews are for the hardrock as well, lol. would be easy if i liked the hardrock, it sure is cheap. but when i saw it at my lbs, i wasn't impressed and it weighed a ton. so all you rockhopper owners let me know how you like it?? :D |
Hey I don't post much, but I have a 03 Rockhopper.
After testing a couple bikes (trek, c'dale) I decided on a Rockhopper. Almost 2 years after purchase, I can say that I don't regret my decision at all. Given my budget and the type of riding (XC.trailriding/whatever, Florida style), the Rockhopper was an excellent choice for a first MTB. 2 things I'd watch out for: *Cranks: the 03 came with a five-d, not sure about the 05 but if it does, then just save yourself the headache and replace it immediatly. I was victim to the famous "loosened crank arm" syndrome. ITs a pain, just buy a new crank. *Learn to adjust derailleurs, the Alivio front needs adjusting constantly (every ride) the rear deore needs adjusting almost every other ride. True to the rumor, they are Shimano. Thats my 2 cents. Good luck! :) |
I test rode the 05 RH when I was looking for my ride. At my weight(180ish) it seemed a little less sturdy than the '04 PRO that I eventually decided on, even though the forks were upgraded in the '05 model(as I understand it). I would say it seems like a great intro/kick-around bike. Of course,as many here will point out, RIDE IT FIRST!
