IBEX Mtn Bikes

I have found some info from searching this forum, but does anyone have an opinion on IBEX mtn bikes, specifically the low end Alpine 350 or 450 models? (www.ibexbikes.com)
Thanks a lot,
kageyb

I've never heard of them, but I mean, if the frame and company aren't bunk they seem like a decent bike for the money.

I know nothing (about Ibex bikes)........ But MTBR has an Ibex forum and I think an Ibex guy actually posts there as well. They should be able to give you some info, although probably a little biased.....

I don't know alot about them other than they sell mainly online at discount prices. You can get a nice bike for a good price but... If your new to the sport, spend the extra money and buy at your local bike shop. I have learned my lesson and purchased a bike online to save $150. In the last year, I have spent over $200 at my LBS getting things done to my bike that would have been free if I purchased the bike there.

You will find not many people will respond to this. The owner/associate has been spamming the forums and in reality the bikes look to good to be true. While most have not ridden them in person, I don't think anyone but the multiple spammers would recommend them.

Biggest point against them is the one size fits all. That just don't jive. I say no...go to a lbs and fit one to you specifically

My friend ordered the 2004 Alpine 550 to Canada last fall.

Pretty good value for the money I guess - but he paid a lot extra for shipping and currency conversion to get it into Canada. His biggest complaint was the saddle - he said it "felt like a *****". The disc brakes felt pretty good - they were my first go at that type. I found that my v-brakes when I tuned them regularly felt pretty much the same on dry ground. Can't remember much else, if you have any big questions I can try to ask him for you.

Attached is a pic of his bike from a couple of weeks ago.

I still like my Rockhopper Comp more though

EDIT: Ohya if you're new to bikes and stuff, its better to go to your LBS to get sized properly. My friend ordered a frame that was a bit too big for him.

I notice he has adopted the saddle horizontal position now.
Doesn't seem to be SHAPED like one?

I have an 2003 Ibex Alpine 550. It's been a good bike for me. I replaced the saddle with a Brooks Conquest, put on real pedals, and semi slicks. Other than that, it's been a good bike for me with no particular problems.

I've had good luck with the bike including riding jeep trails in Big Bend National Park towing a BOB trailer and touring from Texas to Kansas self supported. I've probably got about 3000 miles on it and it's still going strong.
