DJ 3 problem...
My friend just bought a 2003 Dirt Jumper 3 off one of the kids at his school for $100 american. The kid he bought it from said that a LBS went all through it and replaced everything. My friend now hasit on his bike and no matter how hard he tries, it wont go down anymore than 1 1/2". He has no air in them and they still wont budge. Whats the problem?

Dj3s are made to be stiff for that big hit. Trust me, I tried to compress one on a bike. I kept on slamming it down and it wouldnt budge more than 3/4s of an inch, with like normal biking. You could adjust it or get softer springs, but that defeats the purpose - not to let it bottom out on a dirt jump.

They are designed to only take the "sting" out of jumps that you get when you ride rigid.

poably so .
also if you say trying ,do you mean jumping,or just pushing on it .
also the 03 has an extra " of travel, wonder what springs they threw in?
if i don't run any air in mine it is soft as butter and i bottom out on 2 footer ,but iam also kinda heavy.

Well hes trying to make them budge by bouncing up and down, and riding off curbs. They wont budge more than 1 1/2". They have no air and he wieghes about 135 so he should be able tomake them move more than that. When I have have no air in mine i can make them max out just by bouncing up and down.

Check the oil. If there is too much, it wont be able to get full travel. If the springs are too firm, you may want to take out the spring in the right leg and run a little bit of air.

YA we were thinking it might have too much oil, but we didnt know if that would cause that problem.

no !!!! that is just about fine .i weighted myself last week ,and i am closing in on the 200 pounds
i can't even max mine out by just bouncing !!!also the might put heavier oil in it,or as stated too much.

Dj's are stiff forks. I know what your thinking "its only compressing 1 1/2 inch when i push down on it". Do a 4 foot drop off and watch it compress.. or look at the oil line afterwards.

thats weird i have the 2005s and they seem a little too soft at the moment im gunnna have to put a bit of air in. going of big drop and jumps have made my fork move quite a lot.
try getting a zip tie and wrap it round one of your stanctions then put it at the bottom and do a jump or drop. it will show you how far its gone up

It still seems wierd that he can get on mine with no air in them, and max them out. And when he gats on his with no air they wont budge.

I'm 120 and I can't even max out an mz comp except on like 5 foot drops to flat, which are like rare because I get scared of those. lol.
