rear deraillers

So I am replacing my derailler and I want to know if it's worth it to spend the extra jack for xt, or just save some money and get the lx?

What did you have before? If it was crappy and you didn't like it, ugprade. If it was crappy and you liked it, don't upgrade.

If it was good... see above. lol

My friend has the LX and I have the XT and I've ridden both...I couldn't tell a difference, I said to hell with Shimano it's too picky and am happily running SRAM now.

alcahueteria 05-03-05 09:44 PM

yeah yeah, sram sram sram...I am sticking with shimano for this little fix. I had an xt, upgraded from an lx, but I did it before I was skilled in telling the difference. This is why I am asking. I guess I will just get the lx, why couldn't they make those in black instead of that stupid blue/gray color.

Dannihilator 05-03-05 09:51 PM

Which is funny because I went back to shimano.

alcahueteria 05-03-05 09:56 PM

back huh, that's a new one. I haven't had a problem with my shimano, other than spontaneous disintegration. I trust that was a truly random thing. I just wasn't meant to keep xt, I guess.

I'm still antidual control though.

alcahueteria 05-03-05 10:02 PM

yeah, I haven't tried it out, but it just seems like expensive...real expensive, when my triggers and a seperate brake lever are working great.

Dannihilator 05-03-05 10:03 PM

I'm running XT with a XT trigger shift.

alcahueteria 05-03-05 10:10 PM

yeah, I have the deore, they came with the bike. I was thinking about upgrading, but I wanted to stick with a plastic/resin/whatever body just because I slammed my thumb into a metal one and split my nail open and decided I didn't like metal bodied shifters. The reason I say this of course is that I am pretty sure anything above deore is metal. Yeah, I'm really thinking lx though, I'm trying to save some money so I can afford another bike, xt would just be a waste.

Err no. I have all three Deore, LX and XT shifters and none of them is metal bodied. Bang for the buck go LX M570 series.

Me neither. Xt...might last longer and might be lighter, but isn't worth the money in my world. Lx was great value. If I ever go shimano I would still use that level. Weight isn't much of a concern for me,

I like sram, but its an expensive switch (1 of my 3 bikes is sram, 1 is 2002 shimano and 1 is ss..)

alcahueteria 05-04-05 08:13 AM

thanks for the correction about the shifters raiyn, and thanks for finding a silver lx...that's freakin' awesome. I am going to check what my lbs has in stock today before I order anything offline though. Thanks to everyone else as well, for the replies.
